Friday Favorites and Happenings

This week really just flew by. I am soooo glad it is Friday because I want to sleep in (as much as my kids will let me), soak in the sunshine and have a full weekend with my family.

Onto Friday favorites.

ONE. I was so good about not buying myself anything on my trip, but as soon as I got back, I wanted to buy all the Fall like things. Why? It's not like it is even close to Fall here. We are sitting at 90 degrees today and I am hating it. I want some Fall like weather. I will admit that we have Fall like temps in the mornings, but then it becomes blazing hot. Maybe if I buy more sweaters, booties and hats, it will cool down.

Anyways, I scooped up this sweater and this long sleeve shirt this week (thanks to Nadine for the second one).

TWO. Last Saturday when I came home from my long work trip, I came down the stairs at the airport to two smiling girls holding Mommy signs. They came running up to me yelling mommy and I cried. I was soooo happy to see them after being gone so many days. It seriously made my day.

On another note regarding travel, it is really hard to be 8 hours ahead when you have young kids. We had to do a lot of planning to facetime each other. It was easy on the weekends, but during the week was tough. Either I had to make sure I could take a break around 2 pm, so I could call the girls right when they got up (at 6 am ish) or I had to wake up around 2 am to call the girls at 6 pm. It was tough, but we made it work. Though I feel like I didn't get to talk to them enough. Pictures being sent to me helped.

Another note on international travel. AT&T now offers international plans for $10 a day and your current plan works anywhere. I have unlimited texts, calls and data, so I paid $10 a day (when I wanted to use it) most of the time when I was away. I think this is a great deal, so you don't have to just wait until you are somewhere that has wifi.

THREE. When I was in London, I knew I had to find the girls rain jackets. That is what they asked for. I originally was going to get them rain boots, but Rory got those in Minnesota, so the search for rain jackets was on. I went to a favorite store of mine over there (the cutest kids stuff and I have bought a ton from them before) and found the cutest rain jackets, but they are even better. Not only do they have a rain repellent exterior, but they have a thicker lining, so the girls can wear them this winter too. I will still put them in their full winter jackets if it is really cold and snowy, but these are perfect for Fall, Winter and Spring. These are the jackets (no affiliate link, just wanted to share).

FOUR. So I know I have mentioned it before, but I am going to talk about it again. When Rory or I go out of country for work, it is usually for a week to 15 days. Ok, it was only 15 days this time. It is usually on average 10 days. Anyways, when one of us goes out of country, it is a lot of work taking care of the family and house while the other person is working. But the person who is working is also sightseeing, eating meals alone or with co-workers, indulging on yummy foods and drinks, getting a full nights sleep, etc. The person at home is doing it all. Praise all you stay at home moms because it is hard to do it 24/7. So as a reward for surviving it, the person who went out of country treats the other to a steak dinner. And Rory's steak dinner is this Sunday. And I am paying for it....all. We go all out with wine, appetizers, salads, steaks and then dessert. We seriously eat it all and love every second of it. And I can't wait!

FIVE. I am working on my England/Scotland/Ireland posts, but as I was going through pictures and editing them, I realized how much good coffee/lattes I had over there. My morning routine (in England) was to get up, go to the gym, get ready and then head across the street to Starbucks. I ordered my normal caramel macchiato and it was heavenly. Insanely better there. I don't know if it was the milk, sugar or what, but it was really good. All of my co-workers agreed. But I also went into my far share of coffee shops (more local) and had amazing cappuccinos, lattes and macchiatos. One that stood out to me was in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was cold, rainy and super windy out, but we stopped for a coffee and I had a caramel cappuccino with a caramel crunch topping. It was heavenly.

  4. I know what you mean about buying fall clothes and hoping for fall! I love that pullover you ordered. That is so cute how excited your girls were to see you. Being gone that long must have been hard, but I definitely know what you mean about being the one still at home! Dave travels for work, but luckily not for that long! Gabbie needs a new raincoat, too bad she is not little enough for cute ones like the ones you got!

    1. They were sooo happy to see me which makes me soooo happy. I hope Dave does something for you afer he comes back from a trip. Even something small like making you dinner. It is hard being the only parent home. Oh dang. I did see a lot of bigger ones, but from tiny local boutiques.

  5. I love both of those tops! Too bad I wouldn't be able to wear them yet either. This weather sucks. Haha. And that caramel cappuccino with a caramel crunch topping looks like the best thing ever. I wish we had a fancy coffee shop like that here that would serve something like that! Enjoy your steak dinner this weekend!

    1. It is too hot. It needs to cool down. I wish we had a coffee shop like the one I went to in Edinburgh. It was sooo good. I asked if they sold that caramel crunch because I would top it on everything. Ice cream, coffee, yogurt. Thank you!

  6. I just LOVE that light blue top in particular! Aren't fall clothes the cutest?! I'm so glad your little ladies were so excited to see mama come home, too. That's seriously the absolute best feeling. Since my new job involves a bunch of overseas travel, I'm hoping to experience that magical homecoming, too ;) happy Friday!

I love you & Rory make a good team when you each travel. It is a lot of work, but you each can go knowing the other has everything under control. Enjoy the steak dinner to celebrate another successful trip!

  8. Oh my goodness, that coffee at the end!!! I think I just drooled a little. I had to go make myself a cup of iced coffee real quick. So you ordered the free people top???? Isn't it gorgeous!!!! 9. That is so funny that you thought the Starbucks here was better! Glad you got to some independent coffee shops though - us Brits could not survive without them in this sometimes grim climate! If I could have guessed anywhere you'd go for girls' clothes I would have picked CK when I saw the image - aren't the stores lovely? Easy to get carried away! So sweet they met you with signs too - I bet you are glad to be home - and to give your home hero a break. Enjoy your steak dinner and have a great weekend xx
