Our Valentine's Plans

I have said it a few times, but we are not big Valentine's Day people. We celebrated it (with gifts) once early on in our relationship with the whole shebang...dinner, drinks and big gifts. And we celebrated it on Valentine's Day, so dinner was insanely expensive coupled with the floor seats to The Black Keys show in Sacramento and a hotel room, I went overboard. Usually we just order in take-out from our favorite Thai place or stay in. I would rather shower my loved ones with love EVERYDAY then to just pick one day a year. I guess I don't buy into the Hallmark holiday as much as I could. But this year we have children and use ANY excuse for a night out, just the two of us, has us jumping on the Valentine's bandwagon.

We are celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday February 12th. I have a hair appointment that afternoon, so it is the perfect excuse to get gussied up. Side note: anyone else waste their freshly done hair because they can't go out after it? We are going to a new restaurant in town (that we heard good things about) and having drinks after. By going Friday instead of Sunday, we will save so much money. Restaurants jack up the prices of dinner on Valentine's Day or make you do the prefix menu. So much money.

My in-laws are coming over to watch the girls and let us have a whole evening out. And with the weekend we just had, we are very welcoming to it.

As for gifts, we were going to opt out once again, but then my husband decided that we should spoil each other since we rarely buy ourselves anything but the necessities. We always opt to spend our money on our lady babies. So I started searching for gifts for Rory, hence my Valentine's Gift Guide for Men, but then he told me he really wanted new boots. And these boots to be specific. Timberland Men's Grantly Boot.

So I purchased him these boots and they will be arriving by Wednesday. And he told me he was getting me my own Garmin Vivoactive that I have been dying to buy forever, but won't pull the trigger on because of the price.

Now I can track my sleep, workouts, walks and so much more. Beyond excited and so grateful. My Garmin should arrive by Friday.

So yes we are spoiling each other this year and going outside our "box" but it is nice to spoil each other every so often. Now to think about fun crafts and things for our lady babies. We can't forget them!!

What are your Valentine's plans? Are you going outside the box and having a date night on another night like we are?

  1. Great gifts! It's awesome you decided to spoil each other a bit. I rarely spend money on myself so I agree with doing a little something. :)

    1. It is so hard to spend money on myself when I can spend it on the girls, our house or our pup. So when he said let's do it, I kind of thought we shouldn't. Then I thought, we rarely do anything for each other or ourselves and thought why not.

  2. Enjoy your night out! Tim and I haven't spoiled each other in so long - we really should soon. It's nice to do things like this sometimes!

    1. You really should spoil yourselves. I have a hard time doing it for myself. I always post about things I want, but I never pull the trigger. I wait until holidays or my birthday to get those things. It is hard to buy yourself something when you want to give your children so much. But we have to remember to spoil ourselves and make us feel loved too. We deserve it.

  3. We always stay in on Valentines Day, and I am totally fine with that! A new robe and slippers for him and a homemade meal for me...with wine, of course. :) Not complaining! I hope you have a great week!

    1. I love staying in, or having take out. I am easy to please, but I think since we had children, we take the opportunities for date nights. And when my in laws said we should go out for V-day, we jumped on it. But not on actual Valentines Day. I love a homemade meal and wine!!!!

  4. I'm like you... we usually don't do much. But I can definitely see how a night out would be much needed/appreciated when you've been taking care of little ones like that!

    1. Yes it is. And we need nights out to remember that we are husband and wife first and not just mommy and daddy. Sometimes the lines blur so much that we do need to have date nights. Even stay in date nights.

  5. My husband would ADORE those boots. As a matter of fact, he just finally threw out a pair that look almost identical to those that he's had since HIGH SCHOOL. HIIIIGH SCHOOOOL. I'd say he definitely got his money's worth. Lol. Anyway, I would love to get some of these for him because he misses his other ones so much, but I won't need to get a gift for him until December as Christmas, VDay, and his Bday are all done now. I'm going to put them in my wishlist just in case!

    1. Wow. Since high school. It is time to invest in a new pair for sure. I got mine on sale (so less than what it was this morning), so maybe a rainy day gift. Or anniversary? But you should keep them in your wishlist. I will let you know what he thinks after wearing them.

  6. We always order in food too! I can totally understand why you'd want to go out when you have small children though.

    1. Ordering in food, cuddling by the fire and hanging out is plenty good enough for me. But yes, kids means we want to go out. Just not on Valentine's Day. Gotta save the money.

  7. Ordering in food has been our go-to for Valentine's lately too. It's so much easier with kids and then you can snuggle and watch a movie too ;) Great gift choices!
