Getting to Know Me Again

Again, I am taking inspiration from one of my favorite bloggers, Jessica over at Secrets of a Stay at Home Mom and reintroducing myself. I have noticed some new readers here (thank you) and I wanted to tell you all a little more about myself.

I was born and raised in Carson City, Nevada. Yes, it is the capital of Nevada. And no, it is not close to Las Vegas. It is an 8 hour drive away. I went to college in my backyard, at the University of Nevada, Reno, where I majored in Information Systems. Yes, I love computers and geeking out. Shh, don't tell anyone. I graduated in 2005 and immediately took a job doing web design.

I worked there for a year before being swayed into taking a job with the Gaming Control Board. The allure of travel made that decision easy. I have been working at the same job for almost 10 years now. I have traveled to some amazing places with my job...Australia, England, New York City, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, The Woodlands, New Orleans, Madison and the list goes on.

And with my job, I met my husband to be, Rory. Rory and I were friends for a long time (3 years) before dating. I had a cancer scare in 2009 (cervical - it runs in my family) and he was my rock in this. So I finally gave into dating him. We kept it a secret at work for 10 months before anyone found out.
 When we first started dating

We adopted our first child, Walter, in June 2012. We searched high and low for a dog to adopt and finally after six months of searching, we found Walter in Truckee, California. He is the best dog and an amazing addition to our family.

We dated for about three years before he proposed to me. We got married on August 17, 2013, and it was the best day of my life. We celebrated with our nearest and dearest and honeymooned in Kauai. Kauai is one of the best trips we have ever taken. If you love being outdoors, this is the place for you.

Wedding Day

After we got married, we started trying for babies. We had a rough go of it, but we found out we were having twins in June 2014. In October 2014, we found out we were having identical twin GIRLS.
 Gender Reveal

I was due in February 2015 with a delivery date in January 2015, but the girls decided they didn't want to wait that long. Sutton Kira and Avery Madison were born on December 29, 2014.

My girls spent 26 and 27 days in the NICU and have forever changed our lives. This last year has been the best year of my life. My girls are the best thing to ever happened to me. They made me a mom and that is my most important role. I still work at the Gaming Control Board and I am starting to travel again. I have a big week long trip overseas coming up in April that I am super excited and nervous about.

When I am not at home with my girls, I am enjoying wingo (wine and bingo) night with my girlfriends, snowboarding with my husband, having Bachelor watching nights or having me time (what is that?).

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you stick around.

  1. Yay! I love this! So fun to read new things and some I already knew. Your wedding picture is amazing! Yay for a weeklong trip, but I'd be a bit nervous too. Only because I like to be in control of things and I always worry my kiddos won't behave while I'm gone. :)

    1. Thank you. I loved writing it and finding the pictures for it. And then today in my facebook feed the girls newborn photos came up. So sweet. My weeklong trip is to Israel and I am nervous because I won't get to talk to them daily and I usually prep everything for them. Plus I bathe them and Rory dresses them after so he is in for a new treat. haha.

    1. We don't get to take work trips together. We did for about 6 months and then he got promoted and we had to move off of different teams. But it is fun working with him.

  4. I can't believe you were able to keep your relationship a secret for 10 months! Everyone at my job was pretty nosy so word spread fairly quickly about Tim and me, haha. I used to travel a lot with that job and it got to be too much. At my current job, I think I've traveled twice in 5 years. Part of me misses the travel. That wedding photo is amazing. You look gorgeous and that backdrop of the mountains is so pretty!

    1. Oh my coworkers were nosy for sure, but they didn't figure it out until a few of them went on a work trip to Austin, TX and they sat at a restaurant next to two of my friends who were on a work trip also. After overhearing them say stuff about Reno, they all talked and realized they all knew me because my friends knew where I worked and they spilled the beans. So crazy that it happened that way all the way in TX and I live in NV. Oh I miss the travel too, but not sure how I will like it now that I have my girls. We will see. And thank you about my wedding photos. The mountains are beautiful here and we chose to get married at a golf course that is next to the mountains and gorgeous.

  6. I love this! I've been reading your blog for a little while now, but there was so much that I didn't know about you!

I think that's awesome that you get to travel for your job... I used to do some traveling with mine before I had kids, but it was never to anywhere exciting like you! Most of my travels were to New Jersey. Haha.

    1. That makes me so happy that I did this. I always forget that everyone doesn't know me as if they lived here and hang out with me, so this is always good to do at least once a year.

Haha, I travel to New Jersey quite a bit since they model gaming after us. I usually stay in Philly and drive to Jersey.

  7. Love this! (Especially since I just started reading your blog.) might have to do one myself soon since I've had a whole heck of a lot going on. Plus, people wonder why the heck I live in Canada now. Ps I need a wingo night/group!!

    1. You should do one and explain why you live in Canada. I don't know why, so I am sure many others don't. Plus you can talk about your little man too. He's so darling. And a wingo/wine night is a must. It saves my sanity.
