Puerto Vallarta Days 3 and 4

So I am back to recap days 3 and 4 in Puerto Vallarta. I wanted to recap day 5, but that just adds in way too many photos for one post. So you will have to wait for the last of the recaps until next week. If you missed days 1 and 2, check it out here.

We woke up on Monday morning and were not sure what we wanted to do. Rory had read about a small hike/walk up to Mirador La Cruz which is an outlook over all of Puerto Vallarta. He said it wasn't too long or bad of a hike, so I checked it out on PV and it was a must see. So we got ready, headed out to get more cash, grabbed some waters and headed down the Melacon. From our condo, you head down the Melacon and part way down, you turn up towards the old town area which leads you up into the hills. Once you get to the top of the neighborhood, you head up a very steep staircase. But in our case, they were doing work on the road that lead up there, so we had a mini detour through the woods/jungle.

But then we came to this.

This was the walk down side (which we should have walked up).

This was our trek up.

Hiking up the stairs when it is hot and humid sucks, but the view was definitely worth it.

After spending an hour there, we started walking down. This time we went through the neighborhoods to get more of the Mexico lifestyle feel.

Then we headed back to town for some lunch. We stopped at a healthy foods place, Salud and had yummy bowls. I had the Thai bowl and Rory had the Mediterranean bowl.

After eating, we headed back to the condo to go to the pool. We spent a few hours up there and then went to Rory's great uncle's condo to hang out and catch up.

After talking for a couple hours, we headed out to the Melacon to grab some Italian food. We usually don't eat on the Melacon because it is pricey, touristy and always has a wait, but after seeing this place packed every night for years, we decided to go to La Dolce Vita. We shared the calamari and then I had the pappadelle with beef ragu and Rory had the calzone.

After dinner, we headed to a gelato place not far from dinner and grabbed a scoop each and took in the sunset.

Tuesday morning we got up and headed out to breakfast at Freddy Tucan's. Then we walked through some shops and settled in at a beach bar/restaurant/lounge and had our first pina colada's of the trip. They were really good, but really expensive. Ha. I guess you are paying for the views.

After our drinks, we went to a local barber shop and made an appointment for Rory to get a shave while there. Then we headed back to the condo for some pool time. After the pool, we showered and got ready to go to the barber shop, Barber and Booze. Rory wanted a shave where they use a single blade. Those freak me out because all I think about is them slicing the neck. Ugh. But I watched the 45 minute process. It was pretty cool. They go through a lot of things to get the perfect shave.

After his shave, we walked around and grabbed a margarita and people watched for awhile. Then we headed up the hill to our favorite hole in the wall, Jorge's Hideaway Shrimp Shack for dinner. We go to this place every year because they have the best shrimp diablo that I have ever had. But first we had their chili pablano soup. Then I got my shrimp diablo which comes in a pineapple and has pineapple chunks in the spicy sauce. I paired it with a blackberry margarita.

I wait all year for this dish.

As a finisher to your meal, they give you Kahula and cream. This is always nice and something I wish I did more often...except the calories. ha.

After dinner, we walked the Melacon and watched the sunset. We were sooo full from dinner, but it was the perfect evening. When we were finishing our dinner, we talked to a guy for quite a long time. He lives in PV, but is from the states. He has visited Nevada many times and even knew of some of the local places we go to. Such a small world.

And that ends days 3 and 4. Stay tuned for another round next week.
