Girl Chat - Day in the Life

It's time for another round of Girl Chat and this time we are talking about a day in the life. These are my favorite posts. I love reading them because I am nosy and want to see what other people's lives are like. Enjoy a Day in the Life of my household.

I chose Thursday May 10th as my day. The day before I set up alarms in my phone to remind myself to take photos. I also put post-it notes on my desk at work and around my house.

5:30 am: My alarm goes off and I just sit in bed with my eyes closed for about 10 minutes before getting up.

5:39 am: I get up and head to the bathroom to take a shower.

5:50 am - 6:15 am: I get ready. This entails applying make-up, taking my meds, blow drying my hair, finishing my make-up, curling my hair and getting dressed.

6:10 am: The girls come into the bathroom while I am finishing up getting ready, so they can go to the bathroom.

6:15 am - 6:30 am: Rory starts getting the girls ready while I open the blinds in the front room (so Walter doesn't destroy them), give Walter new water and food, prep our lunches and load everything in the car. Once I am done with that, I help Rory finish getting the girls ready. Then we load the girls into the car.

6:30 am: We leave the house to take the girls to daycare. The girls school is about a 2 minute drive from our house.

6:32 am: We arrive at the girls school and get them inside. Their school opens at 6:30, so we are usually one of the first to get there. We get the girls settled in before giving them hugs and kisses goodbye.
I blurred out the schools name for obvious reasons.

6:37 am: We leave the girls daycare and drive to work.

6:38 am: We grab a latte to go and drive to work.

7:05 am: I get to work and get settled in. I check my emails, look at the calendar to see who will be in the office that day and start working.

7:05 am - 9:15 am: Work, work, work.

9:15 am: My co-worker comes by to see if I want to take a break and go on a walk, which of course I want to.

9:35 am - 12:00 pm: Work, a meeting and more work.

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: I go to the gym to get in a run, some walking and some weights, but when I get there, they are renovating the shower area, so I decide to just take a long walk since I will have to use wipes to "get clean". I want to limit the sweating since the showers are out for a week.

I walked 3.74 miles in 53 minutes.

1:00 pm: I head back to work to eat lunch at my desk and answer any emails I got during my lunch hour.

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Work

3:05 pm: My co-worker went to Starbucks on his break, so he grabbed me a grande skinny caramel macchiato (my favorite from SB). I also take this opportunity to fill up my water bottle. I am trying to drink at least two to three of these a day while at work and more at home.

3:05 pm - 4:30 pm: More work.

4:30 pm: We leave work to head to the girls daycare to pick them up.

5:10 pm: We arrive at the girls daycare to pick them up. I spend a few minutes talking to the girls head teacher about her babysitting the girls at our house for my sisters wedding.

5:20 pm: We head home.

5:22 pm: We arrive home and unload the girls. Once we get inside, I unpacked our lunch containers, washed the girls hands, changed, petted Walter and preheated our oven. Rory mows the lawn and the girls watched a little tv. I try not to make it a habit for them to watch tv, but sometimes it is easier. It is hard having little ones near you when you are chopping and cooking on the stove.

5:40 pm: I chop all the veggies, while the bacon is cooking. I finish prepping the soup (Butternut Squash Soup) just as Rory gets done mowing the lawn. Once I set the soup to simmer, I head to the bathroom to get the bath prepared for the girls.

6:20 pm: While the soup simmers, I bathe the girls.

6:40 pm: My part of the girls bath is done, so I clean up the bathroom and head back to check on dinner. While I finish dinner, Rory dresses the girls and brushes their hair.

6:45 pm: I blend the soup into a puree, chop the bacon and finish making the salad.

6:55 pm: We eat. Normally, we eat earlier in the evening or the girls eat before us if it is something that they won't eat or is too time consuming, but with Rory mowing the lawn and having bath night, things took way longer than normal. Plus I usually bathe the girls after dinner. So things were a bit backwards on this evening.

7:15 pm: I clean the dishes, tables and kitchen.

7:30 pm - 7:45 pm: We brush the girls teeth, they go to the bathroom and then settle into their room for bedtime stories. The girls pick out a book each for me to read. Sometimes they get 2 books (total) and other times it is 4. It just depends on the timing of the evening. We give the girls hugs, kisses and they tell us what they are going to dream about.

7:45 pm: Lights out. I finish cleaning up in the kitchen and then start a load of laundry.

8:00 pm: I make sure the girls have gone to sleep and then Rory heads out to take Walter on a walk. I use this opportunity to use my Simply Fit Board and get 15 minutes in while watching the start of Grey's Anatomy. I didn't want to have any spoilers, so I watched mostly live.

8:45 pm: Rory and Walter are back from their walk, but I am still watching Grey's and trying not to cry.

9:15 pm - 10:00 pm: Grey's is over and I need a distraction, so I do a bit of online shopping, but don't buy anything. Just looking at all the cute Spring/Summer tops and dresses that I want to add to my wardrobe. We also watch LA to Vegas (the season finale) at the same time.

10:00 pm - 10:15 pm: I get ready for bed. I take off my make-up, clean my face, put on a hydrating mask, brush my teeth and go to the bathroom.

10:15 pm: Lights out for me. I was exhausted from the week.

  1. That picture on your phone of the girls is soooo precious! Caramel Macchiatos are current favorites at Starbuck's too - so nice a coworker picked you up one! And that soup - yum!

  2. Haha our dog destroys our blinds too if I don't open them and pull them up a little! They're actually broken right now and we've yet to get new ones. Don't feel bad about letting the girls watch tv, I do the same thing when I'm making dinner! It's all about survival haha!

  7. I love that you get out of work at 4:30pm but I'm not sure I could wake up that early lol. I feel like if I could just get home earlier it would make such a difference to my day. Sierra Beautifully Candid

  9. I think I need that pink dress on Mint Julep, so cute! Man you get up early. I don't get up till 7, but also have no kiddos so my morning is a lot less hectic. That is so nice of your coworker to bring you a caramel macchiato, those are so yummy! I love that photo of the girls on your phone!

  10. Your day looks almost exactly what my day used to look like when I worked! So many similarities! And I don't know how you lay there with your eyes closed for ten minutes without falling back asleep again. If I close my eyes again I'm gone! Haha. I also need to try a Caramel Macchiato from SB. I don't think I've ever had one.

  11. I do love these posts - it is nice to see other working Mums doing similar things - like tending to the pets at the crack of dawn and not being able to sit down when you come in from work... and always putting laundry on! You start work so early - props! I also really admire the fact you fit exercise into your schedule and healthy eating- I would love to know what a fit board is (anything small that I can do while watching the TV to get fit sounds great!). Some things that are different to here - the daycare looks so new! Pretty much all of them here are converted Victorian houses and don't look the most child friendly. Wish I had a colleague who brought me Starbucks - I need to factor that in the next time I recruit staff haha! Great post and thanks again for the link up - Joanne x

  12. Being a working mom sounds so hard to me. You get up so early and work for so long! I admire you. You and Rory work in the same place? How did you get a picture of your wash spinning? Mine stops when I open the top. That part reminded me I needed to get my wash into the drier right now! That fit board sounds interesting!

  13. That soup looks incredible! I love how you can squeeze in fitness at your lunch hour and do walks on breaks- I run errands during my lunch hour and then checking emails as I scarf down lunch is a daily occurrence. Loved reading about your day! - Shannon @slayitagainshan.com

    1. It is the only time I can even workout, so I have to do it when I can. But sometimes I would rather go out to eat. Ha. I run my errands Friday afternoon before I pick up my girls. Thanks for participating in the link up!

  16. Dang I'm so sad I missed the linkup this month, but I LOVE day in the life posts so this was a good read for me :) I cannot get over how "late" you go to bed. I'm such an old lady and am in bed by 8PM. Also - that soup sounds/looks AMAZING!!

  18. Do you like the simply fit board??? I told Chris I wanted one when we were at Target last week and was mostly serious about it as I was trying it out in the aisle lol. Your day looks a lot like mine, though I wish Zoe's daycare was 2 minutes away. We have a 25 minutes commute to daycare, and then I have another 30 to get to my office. Woof. Zoe goes to bed around the same time at night, and we always eat dinner later than I want to.

    1. I love mine.It is a great way to burn calories while watching tv. Plus you can do so many other workouts with it. I use it almost daily. We used to have a commute to daycare like that, but then the girls were across the street from us. it is definitely a benefit being so close to home now (daycare wise).

  19. That soup looks so yummy! I know what you mean about TV time for the littles. I'm not a huge fan of it either, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get dinner ready. :)
