Wow, it feels like a long time since I wrote a post (last weeks were all scheduled). But it feels good to dust off the blog and do a weekend recap. I didn't take too many photos, but we did have a pretty good weekend other than the no sleep. I will get to that in a bit.
Friday, I finished up some classes for my conference down in LA and headed to the airport around 1 pm. I managed to get on an earlier flight that was to get me into Reno just before the girls were to go down to bed. I had been waiting all day to see them....receiving photos from daycare and videos from Rory only to find out they were so tired that they fell asleep just before my plane landed at 6:40. I was super bummed.
After getting my luggage, I headed home to unpack and then headed back out for some take out. One thing I will say about my trip was that Disneyland (my hotel was the Disneyland Hotel) is soooo expensive. I didn't find anything to eat under $20 except Starbucks (which I had twice a day, ouch) and Pretzel Weitzel. I spent way over my per diem on the trip.
We just relaxed that evening. I thought I would get some goodnight's rest since the girls slept so well that week I was gone, but I was wrong. We were up every hour soothing the girls. Not sure if it is teething, missing me (and hearing me), being too hot or what. But sleep was lacking this weekend.
Saturday morning we went out to breakfast to our favorite spot, Two Chicks. After breakfast, we headed to Coscto to pick up a couple things and ended up spending $200. Isn't that how it always is? After Coscto, we took Walter and the girls on a walk. After our walk, everyone was tired. We fed the girls lunch and they went down for a nap. During their nap, I headed to Total Wine and Whole Foods for some grocery shopping.
We spent the day playing inside since it was so hot outside and I had the best time catching up with my girls. I chased them around playing their favorite game of mommy is going to get you. The laughter that ensued was the best. I really missed my lady babies on my trip.
I made the girls dinner and started our dinner of spaghetti. After we put the girls down to bed, I finished dinner, we ate and watched some track and field (Olympics).
Sunday, we got up and Rory got us coffee and muffins while I got the girls changed and ready. We played around the house for most of the morning and then got ready to head back to Coscto to return something, go to a furniture store and head to the mall. I needed new running shoes so badly. Mine are over two years old and last week while in LA, they caused major hip and shin pain while running. I knew it was time and I got myself a new fancy pair of running shoes. I can't wait to use them today.
We also got the girls some new shoes too. Always have to get the girls something! I also looked around for black rider boots since mine have a hole in the bottom. The search is still on. I hope to have a new pair by the time I head to Europe in September. So send suggestions if you have any.
After shopping, we grabbed a quick lunch and headed home for naps. While the girls napped, we took a short nap ourselves and then did some yardwork. I also had to run to our local grocery store for a few items they didn't have at Whole Foods.
After naps, snacks, playtime and dinner (for the girls), we went for a long family walk to cap off our day. It was pretty hot outside, but the girls loved it. They were playing in their wagon and giggling the whole time.
Once we got back, close to 7 pm, we gave the girls baths, let them play for a bit while we got their bottles ready and then put them to bed. Once the girls were asleep, we barbecued some tri-tip and asparagus. We capped our night off with The Night Of (soooo good) and tried to get some rest before the girls woke us up one hundred times.
And so that ends our weekend. How was your weekend?
Today I am linking up with Biana.

Confessional Thursday
It's time for another round of confessions! Please join me in linking up below.
I CONFESS...
/ that I am seriously way behind on reading my friends blogs. I love reading blogs....more than writing one (sometimes) and I miss being able to read my favorites daily. I need to work on that.
/ that I have worked out every weekday this week and I am so proud of myself. My hotel has a pretty good gym and I am taking advantage of it. I also may be taking advantage of it due to all the wine I have consumed. Don't worry, I don't have a car.
/ that this week is a test for myself and my family. I have only been gone 4 nights (counting tonight's) and it has been hard being away from my girls. In just a few short weeks, I will be heading to Europe for work and that is really going to test us. First, me being away from my girls that long. Hasn't happened since they were born. Second, how my husband handles the girls on his own (with some help from family at times). And lastly, me just being safe with all that has happened recently in our world.
/ that there was a huge case at work this week that was held by the Board and I am so sad that I missed it. So much drama that I have been hearing about for months and I never got to see it come to be. Hopefully I can get a good recap of how it went down.
/ that I bought the girls ridiculously expensive toys from Disneyland (not in Disneyland, but in their boulevard outside) because I wanted them to have Disney things. #spendingallmyperdiem
/ that I would rather buy my girls things than myself.
/ that I have consumed an entire bag of Airhead Bites this trip already. No shame. Or maybe there is some.
/ that I was surprised when our house appraisal came back WAY higher than we thought it would. This means less fees and an even lower interest rate on our mortgage. Let's start the renos!
/ that you all need to brace yourself because next week is going to be fully of mushy posts about my husband and our anniversary.
And that's it for my confessions. Be sure to link up below.

Favorite Recipes As of Late
So I have been stocking up on some new recipes and wanted to share our favorites with you all.
About a week ago, Biana mentioned that she was going to make this pasta and I knew it was something that Rory and I would like. I am not a feta fan (gasp, I know), so I didn't add that, but I did everything else and it was soooo good. Perfect pasta that feels like and summery. I would recommend making this.
I pinned this dish a long time ago, made it once and never did again and I am not sure why. She has since updated it with a different pasta, but I still make it with the orzo. I love this salad and made it again last week with grilled sausages and caramelized onions. It was heavenly and I will be making it more often. Super easy and the dressing is heavenly.
This is another favorite of mine. I have been making this for about two years now. It is so good, easy and never disappoints. I use my favorite jarred spaghetti sauce (Rao's). I made this just last week and could eat it weekly. I love it that much.
You knows those oven baked tacos everyone has talked about? Well we finally made them and they were soooo good, but so filling. I had paired them with Mexican rice and next time I will just make the tacos with all the fixings again. The tricks with the shells was so easy to do and made for an amazing vehicle to my tacos. I will definitely make this one again.
Those are just a few of the new(er) dishes we have made recently. I can't wait to try more that I have been pinning.

Birth Trauma
Since I am out of town for work and I never shared this on my blog (only at Whitney's blog, Work It Mommy), I thought now was as good of a time as any.
Immediately after getting married, we started trying to have a baby. After a few months, it wasn't working. So I started reading books on getting pregnant and fertility. I started using opks (ovulation predictor kits), tracking my cycles and taking prenatal vitamins. A few months later and still nothing was working. So we started seeing a fertility specialist and he determined (through ultrasound) that I had PCOS. My husband's sperm was also tested. I started taking metformin and the side effects were harsh. Plus it made my cycle way longer making me think I was pregnant when I wasn't.
After two months, nothing had changed, so we decided we (with the help of my fertility doctor) were going to try IUI (interuterine insemination). I was to call my doctor once I got my period to start clomid and start the whole process. I had an ultrasound around 8 days post ovulation and said to come back in a week or so when I would start my period.
Well it never came and I took a pregnancy test thinking it was the metformin again. But I was pregnant. How could this be? My doctor said it was a very slim to none chance of it. We had an ultrasound at 6 and 8 weeks and baby was looking great. So I was switched to see my midwife and at 10 weeks, she confirmed that I was pregnant, but pregnant with TWINS.
From there it was a whirlwind. We saw our new doctor (since my midwife couldn't deliver our twins) and a perinatologist (high risk doctor) through my pregnancy. We found out we were having identical girls when I was 18 weeks.
At 33 weeks, just a couple days after Christmas, I went into early labor. I tried to deny it because I started labor the day after Christmas, but ignored it until another two days later. I was in so much pain that I knew we had to go to the ER.
After arriving at labor and delivery, they got me hooked up to the monitors and checked me. I was a 4 to 4 1/2 cm. They did an ultrasound of the girls and baby A was head down and baby b was transverse. She was in my ribcage laying sideways. They monitored me over the course of an hour and with no change in the positioning. And at this point I was at a 9 to 9 1/2 cm. I felt every second of pain and every contraction (which were right on top of each other).
At this point, I felt like I needed to push, but they told me I couldn't and they recommended an emergency c-section because baby b was transverse and it would be hard to turn her if she didn't turn herself. You can't pull a preemie baby's legs to get them to turn. I could have birthed baby A vaginally, but would have most likely had baby b c-section. After many tears and hesitation on my part, I went in for a c-section. Emergency.
After I got my spinal, was moved to the operating table and they started, my husband was brought in. He told me that he never wanted to look over the sheet if I ended up c-section, but when the time came, he wanted to look. And I am glad he did because he was able to capture the girls being born.
Baby A, Sutton, entered the world at 2:37 am on December 29, 2014. She was crying and beautiful as ever. Baby B, Avery, followed her seconds later at 2:37 am on December 29th. She cried a little, but had to be stimulated because she wasn't reacting very well to being outside the womb.
While both girls were being monitored and their umbilical cords being cut by my husband, I was being worked on. It was time to deliver my placenta, but it broke inside of me. Once they got my placenta out, they pulled my uterus out and started massaging it trying to get it contract. They were massing it for a long time and at one point mentioned a hysterectomy if it wouldn't contract soon.
I started to go in and out of consciousness. I was losing a bunch of blood, over 2 liters to be exact, and the anesthesiologist kept giving me shots in my shoulder and put another ivy in my right hand (already had one in my left hand). I must have had at least 10 or more shots in my shoulder.

I closed my eyes and remember saying/thinking, I am going to die. I
have never felt so scared in my life. I have never felt so weak in my
life. I felt like I was slipping away. I was unconscious at one point
and my anesthesiologist kept waking me up saying I needed to stay with
him. I knew I was going to die and leave my husband with two brand new babies. Babies that would have to be in the NICU. All the while, my husband is watching. He watched me
lose a lot of blood and his babies are about to be wheeled off to the
NICU.
The anesthesiologist told him he needed to go to the NICU with the
babies. I remember hearing this and my husband asking if he should go
or stay with me. The anesthesiologist told him to go.
They worked on me for a long time and were eventually able to get my uterus to contract before having to take it out. Thank you Jesus. I am so happy they saved it because we may want more children and I
want that option. I am so grateful the doctors did everything they
could to save me and my uterus.
I had to have a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood loss. I
will spare the photos that show the wall of bloody cloths they used on
me since it is pretty graphic, but know there was 16 bloody cloths on a
pocket wall.
Once my husband was in the NICU with the girls, he was told that I was in recovery and they saved my uterus.
The delivery was over and it was time to enjoy our babies. My girls spent 26 and 27 days in the NICU. Everyday I would travel to the hospital, after I was discharged, twice a day to spend time with my girls. I didn't get to process my labor and delivery. I stayed strong for my girls and pushed through the physical and mental pain that I had experienced.
I asked my husband questions about what happened from day one, but I didn't get all the answers until weeks later. It was traumatic for him as well.
I know I didn't deal with my traumatic birthing experience like I should have. I did ask the questions, but I tried to block it out. But as the months went by, it hurt me more and more. I cried anytime I thought about my experience. I tried to rationalize it. I said it was normal. But in all reality, it isn't normal and I almost died. I almost lost my life giving birth to the two best things that have ever happened to me.
I didn't get postpartum depression, but what I had was the aftermath of a traumatic birth. I spent many days and nights crying over my experience. Every time I pass the hospital, I get anxious and upset because it brings back the memories. I never got the beautiful vaginal birthing experience that I hoped and dreamed about. I never got pictures with my girls right after birth (not even the ones beside my head after a c-section). I never got the skin to skin with my twins right after birth. I laid there helpless, losing a lot of blood, going in and out of consciousness and almost dying.
Over the last 15 months, I have learned ways to cope with my traumatic birth. First, please talk to someone, anyone about your thoughts and feelings. Whether it is a therapist, your partner/spouse, a friend or your mother. It feels good to talk about the experience. You will shed tears and hurt, but talking about it will get it out there. Ask the questions to anyone who was there during your birth trauma. Get your answers so you can be at peace in your mind.
Write about it. Without my blog and my personal journal, I wouldn't have been able to articulate my thoughts and feelings on the experience. Seek out other women who have had a birthing trauma. Read their stories and get some comfort that you are not alone.
And drive by the hospital or visit the hospital in your own time. Since giving birth to my girls, I spent 27 days there visiting them in the NICU. And once they were out, I came back to donate their preemie and newborn clothes to the NICU when they grew out of them. We have had doctor appointments there. I have had three surgeries since they were born and every one of them has been at the hospital they were born at. I have walked those halls to get a sense of relief and closure. It helps. Each time it got easier and easier to be there.

Friday Favorites - Birthday Edition
So it's no secret that my birthday was Tuesday and I felt beyond spoiled...and I still have a few gifts coming my way. So what did I receive for my birthday?
One. You know those wedges on Nordstrom that I have been wanting for months, but never pulled the trigger on? Yep, those Dolce Vita sandals. Well they are now in my closet and I am beyond excited about them. I even wore them that night to my birthday dinner. Giddy doesn't even cover how happy I was and am to have these babies.
Two. You know those loft crop pants that I love so much? Well I got them in the seafoam (a very light green color) and grey. These are the perfect work pant and my work clothes needed a serious overhaul. So thank you for the new pants.
Three. I was also in serious need of new workout clothes. My in-laws went to Lululemon and bought me some yoga pants that are amazing. I love their leggings so much. So comfortable and well fitting.
Four. My in-laws (both mother and father and sister and brother) both bought me gift cards to Lucky Jeans. Now I can get myself a new pair of skinnies for the Fall.
Five. The last one is a gift from the NFL since I haven't received the others yet. The NFL is gifting me with some preseason action starting this weekend and I am sooo excited for football. I can't believe football is here (yes it is only preseason) which means Fall is around the corner and that means tailgating and so much more. So thank you NFL for your awesome gift.
And that's it for my favorites. Have a great weekend!
I am linking up with Karli, April and Erica.

Confessional Thursday
It's time for another round of confessions. Link up with Lynn and I below.
I CONFESS...
/ that my car has been having low oil issues AGAIN. This time I did my research since they told me I needed to talk to Subaru Global after my oil consumption is just within the parameters. Turns out Subaru had a big lawsuit against them for this issue and my vehicle is within the VIN number range. All the issues I am having, is what this lawsuit is about. So now I am annoyed, having to fight with Subaru and hoping to get this issue resolved. Fingers crossed, but not sure they will do much.
/ that I am thinking I might need a new car sooner rather than later if they can't fix this issue. I love my Subaru, but not if it is going to be a liability.
/ there is nothing I hate worse than being on hold for hours waiting for a stupid company to take my call. #ihatesubaru
/ that the best present I received was sleeping in, uninterrupted. I didn't get the girls up or anything. My amazing husband just let me sleep in and enjoy my day. Thank you husband!
/ that I am so ready for Fall...football, sweaters, boots, scarves, comfort food and fires.
/ that I am writing this post while waiting on hold with Subaru...when I should be working.
/ that I was overwhelmed with the love that I received on my birthday. I was sent emails, texts and phone calls from you all and it MADE my day. So thank you very much.
/ that I love our blogging community. You all help me when I have needed advice on children's milestones, when I complained about not being promoted, when I have had my surgeries, when I needed to vent and when I shared some scary stuff (my traumatic birth story). So thank you all.
/ that I really wanted to do a guest post on a friends blog that I absolutely adore, but with my birthday, all of our last weekend plans and how much I had on my plate, I couldn't do so in a short amount of time. I hope I can do one for her in the future!

What's Hap-pinning Birthday Style
I am back from my glorious day off, aka my birthday.
Yesterday was pretty amazing. From start to finish.
My morning started out with an early wake up call from my girls who were quickly quieted with their pacis. I went right back to sleep and woke up at 7:15 and everyone was gone. I changed my clothes, brushed my teeth and hair and headed out to take Walter on an hour long walk.
It was the perfect temperature and a great way to start my day.
After our walk, I headed over to Walden's for a birthday coffee.
I watched a little tv while enjoying my latte and then I headed out at 10 am for a massage (thanks mom and dad). It was glorious. I have been having a bit of hip pain from running, so this was the perfect remedy.
After my massage, I went to lunch at the Wine and Cheese Board where I got the Trio....grilled cheese (with two different cheeses), potato ale cheese soup and a salad with fruit and nuts. It was soooo good and so nice to have a relaxing lunch without sharing my food with my little ones.
After lunch, I headed over to Ulta to pick up some new eye shadow. My Urban Decay Naked 3 palette is running low, so I went back to my favorite, Too Faced Natural Eyes palette. Since it was my birthday, I received a free Urban Decay eye shadow in a pink champagne color. It is really pretty and I am currently wearing it.
After Ulta, I headed home to watch some Gilmore Girls, shower and relax for a bit. At 4 pm, I headed out to get a manicure. It was sort of a last minute idea and it was so worth it. I went to someone new that I found on yelp and she was pretty awesome and did a good job.
I got home just in time for Rory and the girls to get home. My sister was already there waiting to watch the girls. We fed them dinner and I opened gifts from Rory and the girls and my in-laws. So spoiled. I will let you know what I got on Friday (sorry).
We headed to dinner at Sierra Street Kitchen which is a new restaurant that features small plates. We had thai mini meatballs, ahi poke, bacon wrapped dates, a meat and cheese plate, pappardelle bolognese and blue lip mussels. Everything was soooo good. We also had a bottle of wine and the chef gave us his signature dessert, poached pear in a burgundy sauce with homemade gelato as my birthday treat. We sat by the window so we could people watch which is at an all time best with Hot August Nights going on.
After dinner, we took a walk to burn off some calories and headed home.
We chatted with my sister for awhile and then watched Bachelor in Paradise which was full of drama and so much Chad. It was a really good first episode.
It was the perfect way to usher in 33.
I also got many emails, texts and phone calls from you all and I feel extremely loved. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Cheers to 33.
I am linking up with Jenn and Jessi today.
