Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday all! I am soooo behind on blog reading, responding to my comments and just being on the internet this week. I plan to do that today.

Anyways, onto Friday favorites and Happenings.

ONE. So one reason I have been away this week is on the way home from work on Tuesday, I heard a loud bang in my car. I moved over to the middle lane of traffic and heard another bang but this time it sounded like something dropping. So I moved over to the far right and into the shoulder....of the freeway that has a drop of about 50 to 100 yards below it.

I checked my car for any check engine lights, any car status updates, checked the oil gauge, checked the tire pressure and tire status and everything looked great. So what happened? I climbed over to the passenger side of my car, carefully got out and took a look at my car. And guess what? My tire blew apart. The tread came off the side wall.

So I called Rory and then Volvo road side assistance...and waited. I sweated a lot in the two hours I spent on the side of the road as semis, cars and trucks flew by me at 70+ mph.

Eventually road side assistance got there, changed my tire and I drove to Volvo to drop off my car. And it wasn't until I drove for a bit that my TPMS system came on. Even after my tire was blown apart, there was no air in it, there was damage to my car, and it sat on for over an hour after this happened, that nothing came on until miles late. BS. That is what the TPMS is for. It alerts of a leak/decrease in tire pressure and for it to not go off when a tire was blown up is insane.

So now I am dealing with Volvo, my car insurance and my tire manufacturer. Not the way I wanted to spend the last 3 days. Ugh.

Doesn't look like much but that is down to the base of the car and can't just be buffed out. Also, this photo and the next were taken the day after as I was stuck until 6:30 when it was dark out already.

TWO. And in the midst of all of this, I am trying to get ready for a charity event I have tomorrow night. If you remember, I said I was ordering from Rent the Runway for this event. Well I got my order in early, which I made sure that it didn't need to go back early because I need it for this weeks event.

And since I was having a rough few days, I tried on the dresses and hoped one fit and made me feel like a million bucks. And guess what, one did fit. The other size did fit, but I don't think I could have sat down in it. So remember to always read the reviews for sizing up or down and your correct size.

Here is a peak at what I will be wearing on Saturday night.

THREE. And I had to get my nails done for the event. Ok, it wasn't really for the event, but just time to get them done. I was going to go for something that matched my dress, but I went for something more ME and Valentine's like. I like pink everyday, so I went with a pink and heart theme.

FOUR. Last weekend I co-hosted a baby shower and we had the cutest cake. It is from the same baker that did my girls 7th birthday cake. Check out how cute these cakes are!

FIVE. Weekly funnies.

Have a great weekend. I am linking up with A Little Bit of Everything.

    1. Thank you. It is more of a pain and time suck than anything. I hope so. I love the dress so much. I am glad there are services out there like Rent the Runway.

  2. Girl, that is just so scary about your tire. That's my worse nightmare having a tire blow on the interstate. My whole drive to get the kids to school every day is nothing but interstate with a 70 mph speed limit and I have so much anxiety driving up and down it four times every single day. I can't imagine getting stranded on the shoulder like that. I'm so glad you're okay and I hope that Volvo handles things the way they should. I can't believe your vehicle didn't give you some kind of warning. Yikes. On another note, you look INCREDIBLE in that dress! Seriously, perfect. I can't wait to see pictures from your event!

    1. It is a nightmare of mine too. It is scary getting stuck like that on the freeway and then the other side of me is a huge drop. I am getting that checked out for sure. It should have went off. That is a major safety issue. I am so glad that my kids were not in the car for that.

I can't wait to go to the event. And thank you. The dress is from Rent the Runway. Such a good deal for formal events.

  3. That sounds like a scary experience. I had my car break down on a highway when I didn't have a cell phone and I sat there for hours and no police came by! I finally had to climb a fence and ask someone to use their phone!

    1. Oh wow. That is even worse. I am glad you are ok and that we have cell phones now for this.

  4. Sorry about your tire! I hate car problems, but that kind takes the cake. Chris had to get his tires replaced last week, a nail in the side wall. It's so scary when they go flat or blow out on the interstate. Glad you were ok. I love your dress, it is gorgeous on you! Hope you have fun at the event this weekend!

    1. Yep. It is not a fun time when you have car issues. They are such a time suck. I am still working with the tire warranty, the insurance (damage to my car) and Volvo over the TPMS not going off. It sucks. And tires are soooo expensive. Ugh. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get dressed up this weekend.

  5. That dress looks amazing on you
I'm so glad you were safe with your car - I hate issues with cars. I'm always afraid of something blowing or breaking down on the expressway where its hard to get over.
That cake place - my goodness - they are making cakes MAGICAL

    1. Thank you so much!
It was definitely something I was afraid of and then it happened. I am just thankful my girls were not in the car with me.
The cake is just soo pretty. The girl who does them is just amazing!

  6. OH no! I am so sorry about your car troubles. I can't imagine how scary that must have been and now the frustration of dealing with so many companies to get it all straightened out. On the plus size you look amazing in that dress and your nails are fabulous.

  7. it's crazy you were stuck at the side of the road for so long! I'm glad someone was able to come help you and get you back on the road again eventually! I've only had to call roadside assistance once so far (thankfully!) it was when the battery ran out on a hire car we were given. It was parked outside our house so I could just go back in to wait, but as I was by myself and then they heard my son in the back they gave my highest priority. I felt a bit silly but they said it was policy. Thankfully it meant we didn't have to wait long and we were able to go out, but hopefully it didn't mean a long wait for other people!

Hope you're having a great weekend. I spent a lot of time this weekend at playgrounds with the kids! :)

    1. It is always an adventure when it comes to cars and car problems. Glad you were ok and that they gave you a higher priority!

I want some outdoors time and playground time for my kids, but it has been so cold here.

  8. I love your fun nails! Though what happened with your tire sounds so scary! I'm a nervous driver, so I def would have been losing it.

    1. Thank you! It was scary and I am thankful it wasn't worse, but I feel like I will have a bit of PTSD on that drive home.
