Show Me Your Books - April

I hope you all had a great Mother's Day. I have a recap coming Wednesday, but in the mean time, books. Or as I read, a book.

This month I only read one book. I had other books come up in my library holds, but I was savoring this book. I read the third installment of You. I love the books and I really love the show. I can't wait for season 3 to come out. I know it will be very different than the books because season 2 veered way off from the books. But nonetheless, I took my time reading the book even though I probably could have torn through it in a coup of days.

You Love Me - Caroline Kepnes

This book has very mixed reviews, but as I said, I really enjoyed it. When I am reading it, I hear Penn Badgley's voice. And I love how much the word You is used in the book. It just brings me back to the previous books.

Joe moves to a small town near Seattle to start his life over. He volunteers at the library in which he made a sizeable donation to. He meets you. Everything seems perfect until you find out about her past. Does Joe stay? Does Joe go back to his old ways of "getting rid" of the people who get in his way?

The ending (before the epilogue) got a bit weird and uncomfortable, but overall the book was still good. If you are a fan of the previous books and the show, I would read this. I would give it four stars.

Here is Amazon's synopsis:

Joe Goldberg is done with the cities. He’s done with the muck and the posers, done with Love. Now he’s saying hello to nature, to simple pleasures on a cozy island in the Pacific Northwest. For the first time in a long time, he can just breathe.

He gets a job at the local library—he does know a thing or two about books—and that’s where he meets her: Mary Kay DiMarco. Librarian. Joe won’t meddle, he will not obsess. He’ll win her the old-fashioned way . . . by providing a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand. Over time, they’ll both heal their wounds and begin their happily ever after in this sleepy town.

The trouble is . . . Mary Kay already has a life. She’s a mother. She’s a friend. She’s . . . busy.

True love can only triumph if both people are willing to make room for the real thing. Joe cleared his decks. He’s ready. And hopefully, with his encouragement and undying support, Mary Kay will do the right thing and make room for him.

What have you read recently?

  1. I had been pretty trepidations about watching the series but found I really did get into it... I'm just not sure I'd enjoy the books though.

    1. I heard the first book was ok, and I had already watched the first season, so I skipped it. But two and three were good and different from the show so far.

    1. It comes out pretty soon I believe. I heard sometime this month, but it keeps changing. The books are good and very different than the show...other than the first season.

  3. I've been wanting to watch the show, but I just don't know if it's for me... I think it'll freak me out! Haha. So many people love it, though, so I really want to try! We might watch it this summer.

    1. I would say watch an episode and gauge if you would like it. I didn't think it was over the top or too much of a thriller. But it was so good and kept me wanting to know more. And I usually hate when the books deviate from the show, but in this case it is better, because some parts don't translate to tv as well.

  4. I love the show and can't wait for season 3! I forgot it was a book series, so I might check out the books. I love reading book reviews for new suggestions!

    1. Thank you. I really appreciate it. And the books deviate a lot in the second and third ones, so they are safe to read and not spoil things. I can't wait for season 3 either!

  7. I still need to read all of the YOU books - I cant wait for the next Netflix series - does it follow the books or take its own path?

    1. It followed pretty closely with season 1, but season 2 was quite different. Same character, but things they did, like working situations and how things end up for them were very different. I think season 3 will be quite different from the books as well.

  8. You was our netflix go-to! It was crazy but sucked you in and we can't wait for season 3. I'm not sure if I'd like the books. Sometimes I end up liking the book more or the show/movie.

    1. I totally feel you on that. I am glad that they start to deviate from each other when season 2 hit. And I know season 3 will be very different because of what happened in season 2.

    1. He may very well be. I don't want to ruin it for others, but I see how things are getting worse for him.

  11. I haven't heard of the series or book but it's great you really enjoyed reading this book! I am so very different from you - when I love a book it's hard to put it down and I read it so fast, haha!

Hope you are having a good day :) It's a stormy one here!

    1. Oh I am usually one who reads it in a day or so. But I took my time with this one because I didn't want it to end. It is warm and sunny here. Hopefully that changes for you soon!
