Alright, after hearing from you all, I feel like I will still post. Not sure how much, but I like the idea of having things be normal and something else to read other than the news which is full of so much awfulness right now. So today, I am sharing with you two books that I read this last week. I am reading another and I may get through way more if we are quarantined at home.

An Unwanted Guest
An Unwanted Guest

I have read many of Shari's books and this one I had been waiting for. I had in it my "holds" for about 8 weeks when it finally became available. This story starts off with two best friends who need a weekend away, so one of them decides to drag her friend out to a remote bed and breakfast to talk, get away and just reconnect. They get to the resort and are met with other guests who are all now stuck due to a massive storm. After the first night, one person is found dead. What happened? They think it is just an accident until another person dies. Since they have no electricity, they aren't sure who to trust, who did it, or how they will stay alive.

This book was really good. It gets decent reviews (depending on which site you check), but I though it was really good. I kept trying to guess what happened, who was next and why. I had no idea who the murderer was. It keeps you gripped and well worth the read.

I give this book 5 stars.

Here is Amazon's synopsis:

It's winter in the Catskills and Mitchell's Inn, nestled deep in the woods, is the perfect setting for a relaxing--maybe even romantic--weekend away. It boasts spacious old rooms with huge woodburning fireplaces, a well-stocked wine cellar, and opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or just curling up with a good murder mystery.

So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity--and all contact with the outside world--the guests settle in and try to make the best of it.

Soon, though, one of the guests turns up dead--it looks like an accident. But when a second guest dies, they start to panic.

Within the snowed-in paradise, something--or someone--is picking off the guests one by one. And there's nothing they can do but hunker down and hope they can survive the storm--and one another.

Lock Every Door

I am a huge fan of all Riley Sager books that I have read so far. I had been waiting for this book as well.

This book starts out with a young girl who is down on her luck as she caught her boyfriend cheating on her and needs to get her life back in order. She also lost her job recently, so when she finds an ad in the newspaper asking for an apartment sitter at the worlds most exclusive apartment building in NYC, she jumps on it. How can she be offered this amazing job? But soon she finds out how exclusive this building really is and what is going on behind closed doors.

I really enjoyed this book. It does get twisted at the end, but I was happy with the way it ended. I really wanted to know what was going on in the book, behind the scenes and I had no idea how this book would end.

I would give this book 4 stars. Maybe 4 1/2.

Here is Amazon's synopsis:

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind.

As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story . . . until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Searching for the truth about Ingrid’s disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew's sordid past and into the secrets kept within its walls. What she discovers pits Jules against the clock as she races to unmask a killer, expose the building’s hidden past, and escape the Bartholomew before her temporary status becomes permanent.
