I read two books recently and they were both pretty good. I am currently reading another and have a few more stocked up in my library system.
Pieces of Her
I will admit, I read Pieces of Her because I saw that it was coming to Netflix soon. I love reading a book before the movie or tv show comes out, so I can see how it compares. I have been reading most of my books through my local library's e-book app.
Here is what Amazon says:
"What if the person you thought you knew best turns out to be someone you never knew at all . . . ?
Andrea knows everything about her mother, Laura. She knows she’s spent her whole life in the small beachside town of Belle Isle; she knows she’s never wanted anything more than to live a quiet life as a pillar of the community; she knows she’s never kept a secret in her life. Because we all know our mothers, don’t we?
But all that changes when a trip to the mall explodes into violence and Andrea suddenly sees a completely different side to Laura. Because it turns out that before Laura was Laura, she was someone completely different. For nearly thirty years she’s been hiding from her previous identity, lying low in the hope that no one would ever find her. But now she’s been exposed, and nothing will ever be the same again.
The police want answers and Laura’s innocence is on the line, but she won’t speak to anyone, including her own daughter. Andrea is on a desperate journey following the breadcrumb trail of her mother’s past. And if she can’t uncover the secrets hidden there, there may be no future for either one of them. . . ."
Anyways, I enjoyed this book, though it was a little long. It kept me gripped the whole way and guessing exactly what happened. Fair warning, it is a little graphic. At one point in the book, it starts to flash back and I had no idea how it tied into the book. And I was a little confused, but you have to keep reading to see how it all works out. You really can't just skim parts of it. You need to read it.
STARS: 3 1/2 to 4
A Stranger in the House
I read A Stranger in the House as I really loved The Couple Next Door.
"Karen and Tom Krupp are happy—they’ve got a lovely home in upstate New York, they’re practically newlyweds, and they have no kids to interrupt their comfortable life together. But one day, Tom returns home to find Karen has vanished—her car’s gone and it seems she left in a rush. She even left her purse—complete with phone and ID—behind.
There's a knock on the door—the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted. She had a car accident, and lost control as she sped through the worst part of town.
The accident has left Karen with a concussion and a few scrapes. Still, she’s mostly okay—except that she can’t remember what she was doing or where she was when she crashed. The cops think her memory loss is highly convenient, and they suspect she was up to no good.
Karen returns home with Tom, determined to heal and move on with her life. Then she realizes something’s been moved. Something’s not quite right. Someone’s been in her house. And the police won't stop asking questions.
Because in this house, everyone’s a stranger. Everyone has something they’d rather keep hidden. Something they might even kill to keep quiet."
This book starts off with Karen getting into a major accident. She can't remember anything. You will go back and forth thinking you knew exactly what happened and who has been coming into their house, but then you second guess yourself. I thought this book was well written, a quick read and worth it.
I too like reading before it comes out as a series or movie. Both look great.
ReplyDeleteI love to see how they compare to the movie/tv show. these are both good reads.

DeleteOoooh the only one I've heard of was Pieces of Her, and I think that's because of Netflix! I need to check it out. Lengthy books are hit or miss unless they're gripping, but it sounds like it could be pretty good overall! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt is a good book, but it is longer. But I think it needs to be. And I can't wait to see it in Netflix!!
