Weekending and Mississippi Trip

Wow what a fast couple weeks it has been. I wrote most of my last week's posts ahead of time and I still only managed to post three days last week.

Since I never did a recap of the previous weekend, I thought I would start there and work my way through last week to the weekend. Don't worry, I don't have a ton to say about my week as I can't really discuss all the details of what work I did.

The weekend before last we went to my friends stores first anniversary party. You may have seen me wear some of their gear, but they have a Tahoe themed store called Tahoe Nevada Love. They celebrated in their stores building called The Basement. They had a partial open bar, their store was open for business, there was tons of food, games and a photo booth. We took advantage of it all. I even bought a pair of their jogger pants and I have been wearing them all weekend since I got back from Mississippi.

Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast so I could get a big meal and then we came home so I could finish packing. I left the house at 10:30 and headed to the airport. I flew to Houston and then to Memphis, TN. I got into Memphis at 8 pm and by the time I got to my hotel, it was after 9 pm. I walked to Blues City Cafe (it was right around the corner) and I grabbed a pulled pork salad for a late dinner. It was really good.

Tuesday morning, I went to a local coffee shop and then headed out to Tunica and Greenville for work. Then I ended my day in Ridgeland, MS. That evening I had charbroiled oysters at Drago's and a cup of gumbo. The best way to enjoy the south is their seafood. So good.

Fat Tuesday hit and I was excited to be in the south for it. I stopped at M7 Coffee House for a latte and they had free donuts for Fat Tuesday. So good and the best way to start the day.

I worked in Jackson, MS all day. In the office I was at, they were celebrating Fat Tuesday so they gave me some king cake. I had heard of it before, but never tried it. The one I had was pretty good, but I did not get the baby. Boo.

They took me to a local restaurant for some amazing Southern food. The soup I had was a chicken and sausage soup and seriously the best soup I have had in a long time and that is saying a lot since I LOVE soup.

That evening I had pizza for dinner and watched the President's speech to Congress.

Wednesday morning I headed out down to Gulfport and Biloxi for my next stop. The drive was long on highway 49 because it is the main highway for everyone going to Florida, New Orleans and Alabama coast. I did stop in Hattiesburg for lunch. I stopped at Georgia Blue for an amazing salad. The red, white and blue salad. It had strawberries, blueberries, pears, goat cheese, almonds on romaine and spring green with a strawberry vinaigrette.

I arrived into Gulfport in time to do some work and then I headed to my hotel in Biloxi. It was right on the water and cool to see how different the Gulf of Mexico is in Biloxi from Florida. I went to dinner at the Half Shell Oyster House for some crab cakes with fried green tomatoes and their specialty salad. Heaven.

Thursday, I worked in Biloxi most of the day before heading to New Orleans to finish off my trip. I did stop for lunch at Desporte and Sons Seafood for some more fried food, the soft shell crab and shrimp plate with onion rings. So good. This place is a seafood market with a small deli shop in it.

I took the scenic route to New Orleans and stayed at The Saint Hotel. I arrived early, so after settling in, I walked around a bit. I bought a few things and then met Missy, from My Shitty Kitchen, at Domenica. It was so fun to meet my first blogger friend in person. I think we hit it off and we talked for hours. We had lots of wine, an all meat pizza and roasted cauliflower with an amazing sauce to dip it in. I had the best time!

I headed back to my hotel at 10 pm and packed up since I had an earlish flight to catch home.

I arrived at the airport early and my flight was delayed. Boo. And it kept getting delayed further and further until I would miss my connection in Los Angeles. So after lots of back and forth between Southwest and I, I got on a flight to Oakland to Reno, but wouldn't land until 10 pm. Not cool. So I called Southwest and worked out another flight that took me into San Diego that arrived in Reno at 8:15. I would rather be stuck in San Diego than Oakland. Ha. But I made it home on that flight. Though my bags did not. They arrived at my house at 12:30 am. Ugh. And to make matters worse, I got sick and was miserable all day. What I thought was allergies (so much pollen down there) was a cold.

Friday evening I showered and went to bed almost right away.

Saturday morning we headed out to breakfast and then came home to be inside most of the day since it snowed and was very windy all day. Rory had a basketball game to go to that evening, so it was just the girls and I. We had the best time playing, reading (a ton), learning and cuddling. Rory brought home pizza after the Pack won their game which in turn won the Championship for the Mountain West Conference and then we had a shot of Moonshine to try to kill the bacteria from being sick. I need this sickness to go away stat since I leave to Mexico next week.

Sunday morning we went to breakfast again and then I headed to the grocery store before the snow got even worse than it was. After the girls' nap, we made cookies. My sister-in-law talks about these amazing cookies and I knew we had to make them. I did most of the work, but I had my girls watching and "helping". We made Ina Garten's Pecan Raisin Oatmeal cookies. I have another post coming on that tomorrow, so stay tuned.

We got the girls ready for school this week, made dinner, gave them baths and watched Parenthood to end our evening.

How was your weekend?

I am linking up with Biana from B Loved Boston.

  6. I love that you travel so much for work. That must be so fun, challenging but fun. I sort of hate sitting an office all day. It totally can suck the life out of you.

  13. Sorry you got sick from your trip. I was on a business trip, to Atlanta, last week. Today I started to not feel well. Jet lag makes us susceptible to illness. The rest of your trip looks great though.
