Friday Favorites and Happenings

Can I just say how thankful I am for the end of the week and a three day weekend? I am tired, worn out and we have a lot to do this weekend. We have the girls dance class, our last home football game of the season, family photos and hopefully not much else on Monday. I am sure excited for the upcoming holidays and I just want to soak it all in.

Thank you to all who sent good wishes and prayers to my dad. His surgery was successful, he is at home resting and hopefully will be good as new soon.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. So I have been trying to make new recipes from Pinterest each week and I have to share a major win from this week. My husband was wanting Beef and Broccoli, but I wasn't finding a recipe that sounded amazing. But I did find an alternative....Mongolian Beef with Green Beans. I followed the directions to a tee, but I had more than a pound of flank steak (Whole Foods only had ones over a pound and a half), so I did a recipe and a half (if that makes sense). Next time, I will just go to the local butcher for a pound of flank steak and have them cut the pieces for me (total time saver, I am sure). But this recipe was sooo good. I paired it with brown rice and it was simple, quick and delicious.

TWO. So I spoke too soon on getting better. I felt better for about a day-ish and then had to go back to the doctor because I have a sinus infection. Ugh. Already. Wasn't my nose surgery supposed to fix this? Oh wait, that side of my nose is still messed up and I need another surgery. Why can't February come quicker so I can get this over with?

THREE. Did you watch Becca's season of the Bachelorette? You know I did. And you know that I was rooting for Garrett to win because he is from Reno. Politics and things he said aside, I was going for him and like him a lot. Well Tuesday night was Nevada Wolf Pack's first basketball game of the season and Garrett was there. I wasn't, but Rory sent me pictures and updates. Side note: Rory has season tickets and I stay at home with the girls, but I do get to go to a few of the games and I can't wait for my first one. Nevada is ranked #7 right now and that could change after tonight's game. Hopefully, we move up a few spots. One can hope right?

FOUR. So I have been on the hunt for new jeans for a long time. My beloved Big Star jeans are no longer made. Sure I have tried finding them on thread up and poshmark, but I worry that the seller has dried them in the dryer and they won't fit true to size. So I have been ordering jeans everywhere. I have mostly gotten jeans that are free shipping and returns in hope of finding one pair. This week I ordered Madewell jeans and sadly they were way too small and the rise was still pretty high. I like mid-rise jeans. But if these were more of my size, I know I would have loved them.

So this week, I ordered two styles from BKE (which I have worn before, but not in a long time due to so much whiskering on the pants) and one from Abercrombie (which I LOVED in high school). Who knows if either will fit, but my quest continues.

FIVE. Reminder: next week is our monthly link up for Girl Chat and this month's theme is Tips for Juggling the Holiday Season. Ha. I definitely need to read everyone's. I do have some tips, but definitely could use some more.

    1. Yep. The sickness is already going around like crazy and I am not happy about it. I have tried Banana, but they stretch out soooo much that I just can't spend the money on them anymore. I haven't tried Old Navy. I have heard great things though. I have to go check them out. Oh it is sooo good. We will be making it over and over again.

    1. Thank you so much. The sinus infection sucks. I got surgery to help with it and since my nose isn't fixed completely yet, my sinuses are filling up and causing this. Ugh. I hope you have a great weekend too!

  4. The perfect jeans can be SO hard to find! I've collected a few pairs this season that I like, finally. You know what brand I surprisingly love? Lucky Brand. They're my favorite pair, I think! So glad your dad did well in surgery. Have a productive (yet relaxing!) weekend, xo

  7. Jeans are SO HARD to buy, aren't they?! I have such a hard time because I like mid-rise, too. I honestly only buy ones from AE these days, even though they're cheap. I love Madewell, but the fit is never just right on my legs. First world problems haha have a great weekend, and I Hope you feel better soon!

  8. So glad to hear your dad’s surgery went well, Danielle!

The Mongolian beef you made looks tasty. I am trying to be more adventurous and make a new recipe here and there. I bought SkinnyTaste’s new cookbook… One and Done.

I always find jean shopping to be the hardest thing ever. Every pair, every brand, every style is ALL different!

Get lots of rest this weekend, and feel better soon!

Good Day!!

  11. That must be so frustrating about your nose! Do you have a new surgery date (you mentioned looking forward to February)? Hopefully by now you've cleared your sinusitis - if not, try drinking a herb tea with plantain and or / marigold (calendula) - they do a great job of flushing the sinuses out. Mongolian beef - sounds impressive, and looks gorgeous! Hope you had a great weekend - Joanne x

    1. It really is, but hoping for the best and taking it one day at a time. I don't have a date in February, but I know it will be in February since I have to wait 6 months from the original surgery. I do go in on Monday to get an idea or set a date. Fingers crossed. I have definitely been drinking al lthe tea!!! I hope you had a great weekend too!
