Wow what a weekend it has been. I am exhausted, but so happy!
As I have mentioned here before, we have been car shopping. It has been a long and exhausting process. We shopped at Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda. We looked at compact SUVS and mid-size SUVS.
Friday, we worked half day and figured since it was rainy and windy, we might be able to get a great deal as no one wants to car shop in the rain. Including us.
So after a quick lunch, we headed over to Honda to test drive the Honda Pilot. We had already test drove the CR-V, but we didn't think it was big enough for our long term needs. Note: I plan to do a post on all the cars we drove. The pros and cons of them and our thoughts. It won't be too long, so don't worry, but I want to let others know what we thought just in case you are car shopping.
Anyways, we thought the Pilot was great, but unless you are getting the Touring or Elite, it didn't cover all of our needs. We did sit through some financing talk to see what numbers we could get on the Pilot. After spending an hour and a half there, we left and headed back to Toyota. This our third time at Toyota. The first time we just looked at cars and didn't even speak to anyone.
We came back to the one we loved and test drove, but the numbers just didn't work out last time. But we sat down again and began to haggle. It took three or four times to finally get to a decent price. Another note: we have USAA and we use their car buying service. This gives us a super low price. Way below MSRP. We still wanted even lower than that. And Toyota worked with us, so we said goodbye to my Subaru and hello to my Highlander.
I went with this newer green color (jade mica metallic to be exact). It is green and gray depending on the light and it is soooo beautiful. The interior is gray, black and hints of blue. It is the limited version so it has everything in it. And we got a screaming deal. Total win.
But it took a lot longer than we thought it would and picked the girls up two minutes until 5:30 which is when they start charging. Though they said they wouldn't charge even if we were late since we have never been late in the two years we had been going there.
We loaded up the girls in the new car and Avery kept asking where was mommy's car? She missed my car so much all weekend. We drove home instead of the pizza place because Avery wasn't having it.
I made them dinner while Rory entertained them and then after they ate, we played for awhile before Rory headed out to grab pizza for him and I. We put the girls to bed at 8 pm and settled in for Parenthood, pizza and some wine to celebrate.
Saturday morning I went out to grab some coffee and pastries. After eating, we headed to Total Wine, Target and Trader Joes. We had to stock up on snacks and scotch. We were headed home when the girls fell asleep in the car, so we drove around some more and let them nap. But we went home quickly to unload the car and headed back out for lunch with family that was in town. We had lunch at Midtown Eats and went over wedding stuff. That is what Rory's cousins were in town for.
After lunch, we took the girls home for a late nap. They slept two hours and then were up just in time for my parents to come over and see the new car. We showed them the new car and then we played with the girls for a couple hours.
My parents left and we made the girls dinner and then I went to the grocery store to grab some items for dinner. I made the Vegetable Tortilla Stew from the Cravings cookbook. The girls went to bed late again, but we watched a few more episodes of Parenthood while eating dinner. We are only a season away from the end which is sad. So send us your recommendations on new shows to watch on Netflix.
Sunday morning we got up and I went to grab coffee and pastries again and then we headed out to go snowboarding. It had snowed a lot on Friday and Saturday, so the conditions were pretty good. We did 16 runs in 3 1/2 hours and were exhausted. But look at this view.
We came home to sleeping toddlers and we showed my in-laws my car. We also went through some stuff they brought over to see if we were interested in any of it. We picked out a light piece and it is already up and looks great in our house.
I headed out to the grocery store while the girls napped and also made a Costco run along the way. Everywhere was so crowded. I think everyone wanted to get out in the nice weather.
Once I got home and we got everything unloaded, we headed out on a walk. After our walk, I made dinner for the girls and while they ate, I started our dinner. We also watched the rest of the Masters. Side note: any advice on getting the girls to wait to eat with us, so I only make one meal? They want to eat at 5:30, right when we get home for work and it isn't enough time to make dinner by then. They will only wait if we go out to dinner and that is usually no later than 6 pm.
Anyways, after their dinner, we gave them baths and got everything ready for the week. And they wore their new pjs and just had to show them off.
At 7:30, we put the girls to bed and sat down for dinner and some Big Little Lies. Though we fell asleep around 9 pm since we were exhausted from the day.
How was your weekend?
I am linking up with Biana from B Loved Boston.
Congrats on the car!!!! Isnt it crazy the haggling - when you KNOW they can take the price down - just do it - make it easier for everyone. So dumb!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI used to be so upset when my parents would get a new car - I always hated change.
How cute are your girls in their new PJ's - I love little girl gowns & wish they made them in big girl sizes like that :)
Congrats on the sweet new ride. The girls look so cute in their nightgowns.
ReplyDeleteWhoohoo, what a pretty new car! I love it and I laughed when you said you stocked up on snacks and scotch, lol. Aww look at those fresh from the bath Girlies, so cute!! Happy Monday beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! haha. Yes those are essentials in our house.
DeleteI love their hair after the baths. It is the only time it is ever managable. Ha. Have a great Monday as well!
I'm so glad you decided on a new car! Car shopping is exhausting and something I hope we don't have to do again for awhile. We were between the highlander and the explorer and in the end went with the explorer. I would have been happy with either one. The girls look so cute in their PJs! Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteThat view is just insane! So pretty! Congrats on the new car! That, too, is so pretty! Love it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new car!!! :) We have a CR-V Touring and we absolutely love it, but I definitely agree that having more than 1 kiddo can make it a little tight. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new car! It's beautiful. Thanks for putting together a post on your opinions/recommendations. I think that will be super helpful. We are just about to start that process ourselves. So, that'll be really nice to hear from you. Looks like such a nice, fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteYay for a new car!! I know you're glad to have that whole process done. That view from
ReplyDeleteSnowboarding is insane. And crazy that y'all are still getting snow!! What a great weekend.
Oh I can not wait to hear your thoughts on the other cars! I drive a Tahoe and I LOVE it! I actually wanna upgrade to a Suburban eventually but for now the Tahoe is great! What are your day care hours? We are covered from 6:30am to 6:30pm
ReplyDeleteOne of my best friends has had a Highlander for the last five or six years and she LOVES it. I have a CRV, but it is way too small for us now. I would love a Pilot, but I'm sad that they changed the body type last year.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new car! Toyota is one of my all time favorite lines, such amazing cars <3

ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I am so glad car shopping is over with!
DeleteCongrats on the new car!
ReplyDeleteI had a Highlander as a rental car and loved it!! I told my husband if and we ever upgrade our cars we should seriously consider that vehicle for me!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new car girl!! That's quite a thing to add to the weekend agenda! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteWahoo! Congrats on the new car. That's always so exciting. And a great deal is the best. Sounds like a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a weekend!! I LOVE your new car!! Such a pretty color too! That pic of the snow looks beautiful!! Did you finish Big Little Lies!?!? I won't say anything just in case. As far as eating with the girls, I'm not sure, that's super tough. Maybe try some croc pot meals that way it's pretty much ready when you get home? I know it's hard to get it together in the morning though.
ReplyDeleteNew cars are the best! I really love my Toyota, it's been so reliable! Congrats :)
ReplyDeleteUgh dinner time. So hard at this age. There is only so much crock pot cooking you can take, but the best advice I would have is to have something that you can heat and eat. even though I stay home, I try to get dinner ready when they are napping. And then just pull it out around 5:30 for all of us to eat. Or we just all eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea. I need to get better at meal prepping.
DeleteI really like those new Highlanders! I hope you're still enjoying it!
