Wine Weekending

Monday has hit me like a ton of bricks. My weekend went by in a flash and now I am sitting here drinking about a gallon of coffee to make it through my day. But that means that this weekend was a good one.

Friday started out pretty rough. On weekdays, we bring the girls into our room to feed them their bottle, cuddle and start the day out nicely. Friday was different though. After their bottles, Sutton threw up all over our bed, herself and Rory. Nice warm awakening. After changing Sutton and Avery and removing the bedding, we were getting ready to leave to work. And that is when Avery threw up in her car seat. Not a good start to the morning. So we cleaned that up and I headed to work while Rory stayed home with the girls. (I don't have as much time off as he does).

I worked, picked up lunch and headed home to take care of my girls while Rory went to an appointment. They seemed to be doing pretty well, so once Rory got home, we took them for a walk to enjoy the nice day.

Avery threw up twice and Sutton five times over the course of the day. It was a rough day, but we made it through. Once the girls were asleep, we had dinner and another puke clean up/bath that evening. We didn't sleep very well because we were worried every time one of the babies started coughing that they would throw up. They were so happy throughout the day and only got sick when coughing. We weren't sure if it was cough induced or they got sick from another baby at daycare.

Saturday morning we got up bright and early to head to breakfast. We were worried one of the girls would get sick, but they never did after Friday. My parents came over after breakfast to watch the girls, so I could leave on my girls weekend and Rory could go golfing. I was a bit worried about my ladies, but they did so well.

I met the girls at a friends house and we headed out to Auburn, CA. It was a quick hour and a half drive to Auburn, where we freshened up, loaded into the limo and headed to our first stop, Naggiar Vineyards and Winery.

We tasted wines, took a lot of pictures and had a picnic outside.
The Birthday Girl, Stacey

Check out that view! It was such a great winery and the best way to kick off our day. I didn't buy any wines from here, but we all shared a bottle of the Rose' after tasting.

Next, we headed off to Fawnridge Winery.

I didn't get too many photos here as we were too busy tasting and buying wines. I fell in love with their Old Vine Zin and bought two bottles. So good. They had a red port with a truffle tasting that was to die for. But you need that truffle and they were quite expensive. Plus they had amazing snacks and a little shopping to do.

Our last stop was Vina Castellano. We tasted wines in a cave and then had another small picnic outside. I bought one bottle of wine here and enjoyed soaking in the sunshine with my best friends.

After wine tasting, we headed back to Cari's parents house to prep for dinner. Carole made an amazing chicken picata and salad dinner followed by homemade cheesecake. So good. I could have eaten plateful after plateful. We had more drinks (surprising) and then relaxed in the hot tub for about two hours. We may have had the neighbors come over and yell at us for being too loud. We were celebrating lady.

We crashed, all woke up a little hungover and had another amazing breakfast prepared by Carole. Breakfast enchiladas and fried eggs. We headed back to Reno around 10 am. But when we came to the freeway, we eyed Ikeda's and knew we had to make a quick stop. We all grabbed a couple slices of their pie, drinks and other yummy items.

We got back into Reno around 12:30 and I headed home to see my girls, husband and an injured pup. While I was away, Walter was barking at our neighbors dog and running along the fence over and over again. While he did this, he caught a stick in between his paws and he cut it open. Pretty badly too. So Walter had the cone of shame and a bandaged foot.

We spent the rest of the day calming down cranky babies, running to the grocery story (twice) and prepping for the week ahead.  Oh and enjoying our slices of heaven.

How was your weekend?

  1. I'm so sorry the girls got sick, but I'm glad it only lasted a day! Poor babies.. I don't sleep well when my kids cough either because I'm always worried it will result in throwing up. Your wine tasting day looked awesome!!!

    1. Yes. I was scared I was going to have to cancel my weekend. I still left with worry about them, but my parents and Rory told me to go and enjoy myself. I had a great weekend and I can't wait for the next one!

  2. Ugh, I'm so sorry about the girls. I hope they are feeling good today. Your trip looked AMAZING. That is one of our dream trips. I hope to do it for our anniversary one day or something. Also, I love girl time. You can take as many photos as you want, and just laugh and have fun. Love it! I really love that top photo of you and the girls too.

    1. They seem to be doing better today. Hoping they have a good day. You should do a wine trip. They are so much fun and the weather was gorgeous. So worth it. I have so many other photos of the weekend, but tried to limit the photo dump. And I love that top photo too.

  3. Poor babies!! Fynnlee does that cough/puke thing a few times a week. It's scary. And gross. And you stand there wondering "Is she OK?"...and then she starts clapping in her own vomit and you realize she's fine. I totally freak out everytime she coughs in her sleep b/c she did cough and throw up everywhere. And then laid her head down it and fell back to sleep. These babies keep us on our toes!

Your wine tour looks ah-mazing! What a perfect day too. You're so lucky you're so close to great vineyards. We have some in Virginia but PA is kinda iffy.

Hope everyone is back to normal today! Happy Monday!

    1. Yes I get so scared about the puking. Sutton threw up all over herself after going to bed and we had just bathed her. We had to do it again because it was in her hair and all over her body. I had ran in which was good because she was sleeping on her back and didn't turn. So scary.

I love how close we are to wineries. And we are only 3 1/2 hrs from Napa/Sonoma.

      Have a good week!

  5. So sorry to hear about the babies. I'm glad that they were better so you didn't miss your trip! And we're like you guys... Brian usually stays home with our kids when they're sick as well because he gets way more time off than I do. Kinda sucks that I don't get to stay home with them very often, though.

Your weekend looked amazing after that, though! I know that you enjoyed your well-deserved break!

    1. I agree. Rory has a lot more time off than me. Especially since I took a ton off for maternity leave, but sometimes I want to be home with them. Luckily, I work half day Fridays, so I was able to get us lunch and snuggle my girls after work.

I did enjoy my break. I missed my girls so much though. But so worth it.

  6. Oh your poor girls. I'm sorry to hear about their rough day on Friday but glad the bug was short lived. Tim and I usually try to take turns staying home with Mila, but we've always had the same amount of time off (until this year - now I have more). But Tim's always the one to pick her up if she gets sick at school. He's about 30 minutes closer. I always hate being away from my sick little girl - I want to cuddle her and make sure she's okay. Being a working mom sucks sometimes!

Your wine tasting weekend sounded amazing! Glad you had fun!

    1. I wish I had more time off to be with the girls, but I used so much of it up with maternity leave. I hate being away from my girls as well. And then add on my trip and I felt guilty, but my husband and parents said I should go. And I did, and it was worth it!

    1. Yes it is. It is the worst and they don't know how to vocalize how they are feeling yet. So rough.

  10. Wow, what a weekend (& Friday!). Sorry the kiddos were sick on Friday, but at least you got to enjoy some sunshine and wine! That always makes up for the not-so-great times in life! Your doggie looks like my little Emily in the face - cute pup! Bummer about his paw - poor puppy! #coneofshame

    1. What kind of dog is Emily? Walter is a chiweenie! The cone of shame is so sad, but makes for laughter around the house when they bobs it around while he walks. Have a good week!

  11. I think after Friday I would have given up on the weekend! Go home Friday, you're drunk.
But really, you're a rockstar for getting through that day that seemed awful and still going out with your gals for a fun day! So glad everyone is feeling better and I hope no more sickness hits you guys anytime soon! Have a great week! :)

    1. I was about to give up on the week. I was scared to go on my trip and leave my parents and husband alone like that. But they told me to go and enjoy myself. So I did and I am glad I did. My girls are on the mend (I hope for a long) and we are hoping for a better week.

  13. Oh man! After a rough start it looks like you ended up having a fun weekend - glad you got some girl time. :) The 12 hour stomach bug was in our house a few weeks ago. Why does the throwing up always occur in the car seat?! Such an ordeal. I'm happy to hear everyone is healthy and happy again!

    1. Throwing up in the car seat is the worst. It makes the car smell, you find bits of it later and cleaning a car seat is so hard. Hoping that we are on the end of their sickness. And I hope you have a good week Jen!

  14. Holy dramatic weekend. I would much rather be peed on than thrown up on. Poor girls, but glad they got over it quickly. Your time away looked like so much fun. I'm so glad you got that time with your friends. Girl time is always a necessity. It sounds like other than Walter's mishap everything went well at home. Cheers!

    1. Yes it was a very dramatic weekend. And I left a little bit out (about some drama), but it was still an amazing weekend. I agree...I would rather be peed on too! Girl time is definitely essential and something that I cherish. I can't wait until the next one!!!
