We are all set for Mexico. Except, we have never traveled with toddlers anywhere far. Nor have we taken a flight with the girls. This will be interesting. We have only had an overnight to the Bay Area and a week in Graeagle (cabin camping). So I have been making a list of things to take for the girls. Some essentials. Please pipe in if I am forgetting something important.
The girls grew out of their cute Target bathing suits before summer ended last year, so we had to get new bathing suits. Other mommy bloggers told me a two piece (shirt and bottoms) with rash guard was the best. So we went with iPlay in pink (with pineapples) and light blue (with a birdie). They are going to be so cute in these. Plus they have a reusable diaper as bottoms.
We have a pool at our condo, so we needed to tackle floaties. I think the girls are still too young for the ones that go around their arms, so we went with a float. This one has a 35 pound weight limit, so it will be perfect for the girls. And it folds up nicely to put into our luggage and not take up much room.
We have a massive (and amazing) stroller for our girls, but we need something lighter and easy to travel with, so after some research, we went with an umbrella stroller for each girl. I looked at the really cheap ones (around $19) all the way to the more expensive ones ($150). We settled on the Kolcraft. It looks like it has taller handles (for my 5'9" and my husbands 6'2" heights), venting in the back with the hot Mexico weather, cup holder and large canopy.
Every time we go out to eat, we bring the girls disposable placemats and they are a life saver. Our girls will sometimes eat off a plate, but they also like to throw the plates, so we put down a placemat and put their food right on the mat. And when we are out, we are often asked about them. Once the girls finish eating, we take it off (it sticks to the table) and it allows for easy clean up and ability to hide their mess.
The girls are transitioning between using their bottles and sippy cups. We are experimenting with all sorts of sippy cups and so far only two they have taken too (here and the one above).
The girls needed some sandals and when I was at Babies R Us, I couldn't help but get them these cute flip flops. We have other shoes that we are bringing but these will be perfect by the pool and when they are in their strollers.
We still need to get hats for the girls and I have a few in mind. I like the one above because it has an easy closure to ensure the girls don't untie their hats. We also threw around using a baby baseball cap, but then they wouldn't cover their ears. So we are searching, but this one is at the top of our list so far.
And of course we need sand toys for the girls. These get amazing reviews and may be a part of the girls Easter baskets!
These are also on our packing list for the girls in Mexico:
Clothes
Diapers (which we are thinking of having my in-laws buy a huge box once they arrive)
Wipes
Snacks (snack mix that I will make using Gold Fish, Puffs, Yogurt Melts, Cheerios, Freeze Dried Fruit)
Towels
Lotion
Nail Clippers
Shampoo/Body Wash
Wash Clothes
Sunscreen
Sheets
Blankets
Wubba Nubs
Toys
Travel Changing Pad
Am I forgetting anything that you can think of?

Wahoo! It's getting close. So exciting,m. Your list looks great! I've never flown with kids but I do usually buy some sort of new toy (usually small and not expensive) for the travel day. It is something they haven't seen so it keeps them occupied for a while.
ReplyDeleteYes. I can't wait. I need a break from work, the snow, the wind and life in Nevada. Even if it is only for 8 days!! Good thinking on buying a small new not expensive toy. I will write that down on my packing list. Thanks for the advice!
DeleteThose placemats are life savers as this age!
ReplyDeleteYes they are. We use them every time we go out. Helps keep their mess contained.
DeleteThose swimsuits are so cute! I'm so excited for you guys!
ReplyDeleteAwe thank you. I love how the swimsuits have a built in reusable water diaper bottoms. Our last ones we had normal diapers under their suits and it was a bit gross. haha.
DeleteClorox wipes! You just never know what you will need to wipe down.
ReplyDeleteYes my in-laws brought that up last night. They said on their last flight, they watched someone change their babies diaper on the tray table and said wipes for sure. Haha. I never even thought about where I would change their diapers.
DeleteYou are in great shape! Traveling with one toddler is enough work, but add another and .....whew! I'm thinking they are old enough to be entertained by baby Einstein on the ipad for the flight? Let's add lots of coffee to the list too!
ReplyDeleteOh yes I am sure they would like baby Einstein. I will definitely bring my ipad for the flight and hope for the best! And yes tons of coffee is in order.
DeleteYay! Your trip is getting so close. It looks like you've compiled a great list. We've actually never flown with Ben, so if you have any tricks that work along the way, please share afterward. I can't wait to see and hear all about the trip.
ReplyDeleteGood to know. I will definitely be sharing a post on traveling with toddlers and what we learned from it. What worked and what did not.
DeleteYou guys are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!
ReplyDeleteOne thing we always bring on trips are antibacterial hand and face wipes. I LOVE Johnson and Johnson Hand & Face Wipes because they're safe for baby and they get rid of germs. I'm always so paranoid about picking up gross germs from airplanes and such!
Yes, I am freaked out about the germs on planes too. My in-laws told me about babies being changed on the trays and it grossed me out. At least put a changing pad down. And use wipes. We will be using it!!
DeleteMy daughter loved those cups! And I still use them when I definitely don't want any spills. Your girls are the age mine was when she went on her first flight - just keep them entertained! I let Brylee pick out her own toys and put them in a backpack, nothing that made noise, just some of her favorites. Suckers were a lifesaver for us on the plan as well. Your trip will be here before you know it! -Leah Chasing Texas
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about getting the girls a backpack and having them put toys in there. That is such a good idea!!! And I will look into suckers. Any that you recommend?
DeleteI didn't know how to post a pic on your blog, so I sent you a cool idea on how to travel with twins and have snacks easy to pack. I sent it via Facebook in a private IM. Check it out....it is so cool.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it's an issue where you're going but maybe a good bug spray? I always stick with Burt Bees or another natural one so you don't have to worry about rubbing all those chemicals on your babies. Have a fun trip!
