Weekending in California

Wow, back from another busy weekend and I wish I were still sleeping. This weekend was full of car rides, family, crazy toddlers and so much food. I wish we were still in California, but work calls.

So let's get right into our weekend. Friday after work, Rory and I went to lunch and then to Costco since the cabinet lady called and had to reschedule her appointment for the second time. Something doesn't seem right with her. She is really flaky.

After running errands, we picked up the girls and headed to the flooring store to pick out wood flooring to compare with tile flooring. We fell in love with two different engineered wood flooring and have an appointment set for Wednesday to see how it would look in our house and to get measurements done. The girls did so well at this appointment. After the flooring store, we headed home to meet with another contractor for another bid. We wanted to get three bids to compare. Well turns out, the guy never showed up. He pulled a no call, no show. Not cool and we will NOT be using him.

So we fed the girls and then went on a long walk. After putting the girls down, I went out to get gas for our road trip and pick up some Thai food.

Saturday morning, we left bright and early to head to Inverness, CA. We made a stop in Truckee for breakfast (which was sooo good) and another stop at a starbucks for some slightly warmed milk for the girls. We made pretty good time and were only an hour late for the party to start.

The girls had a blast. They ran around the entire property which was huge. They played by the fountain where Sutton fell down and got a bump on her head while hanging out with her grandparents. They played in one of those playhouses. They played on the swings. They rode in power wheel type of cars. They ate so much food and had the best time.
We made about 30 treks up and down these stairs.

The girls were obsessed with this playhouse and now we need to get one for them.

We were constantly chasing the girls around in between catching up with family. I got to snuggle my nephew. Rory got spit up on by my nephew. And we got to celebrate the new baby and Rory's great aunt. Most people had left by 5 pm. We were staying there in their guest house, so we made the girls dinner and then played around some more. Around 7 pm, we got the girls ready for bed and put them down. After that, Rory and I hung out on the deck with family having bread, cheese and wine for dinner and just relaxing. It was the perfect end to our day.
Of the 50 pictures we took, the girls never looked at the camera

Sunday we got up and we went to the main house for breakfast. After breakfast, we headed out to the lighthouse. It was about a half hour drive away and it was soooo beautiful. The fog was in, but we could see far out into the ocean. We hiked down the 340 steps (30 stories) to the lighthouse, walked around and played around there and then hiked the 340 steps back up lugging a toddler each. That part was tough coupled with the humidity. But so picturesque.
Getting ready to hit the road. The girls' cousin rode with us so she could be with the twins.
 Beautiful cypress trees.

We stopped for this picture on our way back and realized that just below us were two coyotes chasing each other closer to shore.

After the lighthouse, we made our way back to the house for some lunch. Family cooked us salmon, salads, pasta and bread with local goat cheese and figs. The girls ran around playing with their cousins and we went through some jewelry that Mare (Rory's great aunt) had left us. I packed up our things and the car while Rory, the girls and family played out in the backyard.

Around 2:30 we headed out on our 4 hour drive home. We got stuck in awful Bay Area traffic near Napa and Sonoma, but we made it home in pretty good time. We made a stop at In N Out (not the healthiest, but an early dinner nonetheless) and were on our way again in half an hour. We made it home at 7:15 where we got the girls ready for bed and put them down. We did some laundry, packed things for the week and watched the series finale of The Night Of.

I am still tired from the weekend, but I wish we could have stayed another night in Inverness. It was so pleasant and I can't wait for our next visit.

How was your weekend?

I am linking up with Biana from B Loved Boston.

  3. Okay now I have a serious craving for just bread and cheese for dinner. Ha! (Wine too!) My SIL's boyfriend's family has a house in Inverness so she goes out there a lot (they live in the Bay Area).

Yep - a play house would be a great Christmas gift from Santa, right? ;)
Ahh - you're not playing right unless you fall & get a bump on the head! haha

  14. We have engineered wood floors in our kitchen and dining rooms and actually want to switch it out for tile, haha. Mostly because the tile would be easier to maintain (and because the builder didn't install the floor right to begin with). Sounds like a pretty fantastic weekend! Busy, but fun!!
