Friday Favorites and Happenings

Happy Friday all! When I wrote this post yesterday, I realized that today is September 11th. It has been 19 years since that tragic day. I remember where I was when that first plane had hit. And when the second one hit. I had just started college not long before and I made it to my first class of the day, Macro Economics and I didn't move from my desk for quite a long time. Our eyes were glued to the tv with live updates. There were a lot of tears, frantic phone calls to home (not me, but friends from NY) and breaking hearts everywhere.

I can't believe next year marks 20 years. How is that even possible? The gravity of the day weighed more on my heart when I visited the memorial several years ago. Such a tragic and awful day. So today I remember everyone who passed, who fought for us and how things have changed since then.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. This week, I bought books two and three of The Princess in Black series. We finished the first one Wednesday night and I am sure we will read it again. But I wanted to continue the books, and since they are about $5 a piece, I bought the next two. I am sure we will read through them all. The girls love them since they have pictures, but are longer and take time to read. We usually read about 3 chapters a night. We also started James and the Giant Peach and the girls love it. But I forgot how harsh it can be for James. So much name calling (his aunts to him).

TWO. So we are supposed to go Mexico in a few weeks. I have been keeping up on everything Mexico, specifically Puerto Vallarta related. I want to make sure it is safe, precautions are taken and that we can go. I hate that we are in a time in our lives, ie COVID that I have to research this to this extent.

Basically, I live on Trip Advisor right now and in the forums of what it is like there. What is open, what we can do, mask protocols, sanitary concerns, social distancing, etc. So far things seem good, but they could change at any minute.

How many of you have traveled since Covid? Where to? Did you feel safe? How were the airports? Would you travel again?

I am not here to judge anyone and please don't judge me if I want to travel with my family.

THREE. Guess what I am doing next week? I am getting hair extensions. Yep. I have been wanting them for some time now, but didn't do them because I am lazy with my hair lately. My stylist told me that they look better when you curl your hair, but I can still wear them with straight hair. But the biggest selling point other than the length and volume is that I can finally go a day or two without washing my hair.

I have super fine hair which means I can get away with maybe a day of not washing my hair. I have tried to train my hair and it just doesn't work for me. I go to the gym too much and I am a sweaty sleeper that it just doesn't look good on me.

I am pretty excited and since I have saved money by not commuting for the last 6 months and probably won't commute until the new year, I am getting extensions.

So what do you want to know about them? If I get enough response, I will do a blog post. And no, they are not sponsored. I am fully full price for these babies.

Here is my inspiration minus the color.

FOUR. Weekly funnies.

But seriously?!

I laughed way too hard at this.
I feel like this should be ok in 2020.

For the record, I am #2.

Have a great weekend. I am linking up with A Little Bit of Everything and Becky.

  1. Cannot wait to see your hair extensions! I do hope you make it to Mexico can enjoy a sweet time. We have canceled all our flights this year and I have been so bummed about it but my husband is not even traveling by airplane for work unless it’s the company’s private plane. But I know many people who have and it’s turned out just fine. It’s just such crazy times and it’s very hard to believe it’s been 19 years! have a wonderful weekend!

    1. I really hope we can go because it is time for travel and to get out. But be cautious while doing so. I can't wait for the hair extensions. I have been wanting them for years.

  3. I have traveled a lot due to my job and have felt plenty safe. Several flights have been near empty and airports are really trying to take precaution. Honestly it feels cleaner than ever! Love hair extensions and I credit them to my hair growth. I don't have them anymore but did for two years.

    1. That is what I have heard. I usually travel for work, but we are still put on hold for that, but might ease up soon. I heard that your hair grows a lot more when you have extensions.

  4. We have traveled but not by plane. We have tickets for December, but we'll see what's happening then. I hope you get to go!

    1. We keep postponing things for sure. I just hope we can go on this one. My fingers are crossed. We have traveled a bit by car too.

  5. Yeah, I can totally remember where I was when I heard about the 9/11 attacks too. I was in high school. I'm not in the United States, so it doesn't affect me as much as it does those who are. It's shocking how much time has flown by since.

Those books sound amazing. I read James and the Giant Peach as a child (well, listened to it on cassette tape). Though I liked it, I liked other Roald Dahl books (eg. Matilda) far more.

    1. It is crazy how much time has passed. I think it affected everyone in some way even if they were not in the US. It was pretty devastating.

I loved Matilda too. I want to get that one for my girls as well!

  6. ZERO judgement from me. I've traveled across the country with the kids already, and I'll be honest. If you're healthy, DO travel. The economy needs it. Our mental health needs it. Obviously be smart, but I say, go for it. That said, beware of cancel culture. Lots of people are vindictive of traveling right now.

9/11. Can't believe it's been 19 years. I was just 15 when it happened. So crazy.

    1. That is what I have been thinking. The small businesses need it, we all need it. And yes our mental health does too. This is the longest I have been just at home and not traveled anywhere in 14 years. It is crazy. Yes. That is my worry about people being vindictive.
It is very crazy. I was 18 when it happened.

  8. We haven't traveled so I can't tell you what it's like from personal experience but I am reading a lot of blogs that say they had zero problems with flights and airports since they are so empty compared to what they're usually like.. I sure hope you get to go and it's completely fun and relaxing. Please take and share lots of photos so I can live vicariously through you. ;)

    1. Oh I will if we do get to go. I really hope so or at least get out of town for Fall break. It is very much needed.

  9. I’m not comfortable traveling yet but no judgement. Stay safe and enjoy if you go. Happy weekend

  10. No judgment here, momma -- I hope you get to go safely and happily! That sounds like so much fun. And yay for the extensions, that's exciting! James and the Giant Peach was one of my favorites when I was little. Like you said, though, I feel like I forget how rough some of these classics (books and movies) can be at parts. I love that you read chapter books at night, though. That's one of our favorites here too! Happy weekend.

    1. It is fun to read a chapter to the girls and introduce them to real books where they have to keep up with what is going on. I do hope we get to travel, but the airlines keep changing our flights and it has become such a hassle. Ugh.

  11. Hope you love your hair extensions! Good luck with the travel! It's so nice you are able to leave the US - here they are very strict about who can leave Australia and it's hard to get back in too as there is a limit on the number of people so that quarantine doesn't get overwhelmed so not a lot of people are travelling around much. We have thought about going around our state but right now we feel safer staying home - saving up for when things reopen again! :)

Hope you are having a good weekend :)

    1. I really hope I enjoy them too. It is going to be a huge change. I totally get them making people stay in the country. I am not sure if we will get to go since the airlines keep changing flights and making things sooo difficult. We shall see.

  12. I actually just heard on the radio the other day that a lot of Americans are traveling to Mexico right now because they are able to do it safely. As you know, we went on our annual beach trip in June, and we had a fantastic experience. We didn't have to fly, of course, but I'm sure if y'all all just wear your masks, keep your distance, and wash your hands a lot, you'll be fine. The evidence that mask-wearing works seems to grow every day, so I think y'all will be fine as long as you wear them! Good luck and y'all have so much fun!

    1. I really hope we do get to go. They keep changing our fights all the time and it has been difficult. But if we don't go, hopefully we can do something here in the States. I just want to get out and change things up a bit.
