Friday Favorites and Happenings

Another week in the books. I can't believe we are halfway through October already. Ok, almost half way through. We have a lot planned for this weekend and we are checking some items off our Fall Bucket List.

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings

ONE. Last week, Emily recommended Drop the Gown Essie Gel Polish and I went out and bought it since I needed more nail polish (haha, right) and wanted a darker red color for Fall. Well I painted my nails and I loved it. The color is darker than it appears on the bottle, it is long lasting (way longer than normal nail polish) and it is easy to remove (I already painted my nails last night for a fresh mani). Any other Fall color recommendations for Essie Gel Polish?

TWO. Remember a few weeks ago when I recommended a Free People top from Nordstrom that I was super excited about? Well I got it and the color was beautiful, the sleeves fit, it was comfy, but sooooo so large. Really boxy. I followed the models sizing as she was approximately my size and the shirt was sooo big. I had about 6 to 8 inches on each side of the shirt, if not more. I would need to size down to at least an XXS. So if you get this shirt, size way down. I am sad it didn't work for me, but I exchanged it for the second shirt (below) since I heard amazing things about it and it isn't as boxy.

THREE. I have been working on our family photo outfits which has been tough. It is so hard to coordinate outfits for everyone. The struggle is real. First, I thought about the skirt I have wanted to wear for months (basically since Lizzie posted about it early summer) and said I would get a color to match whatever I picked for the girls. Easy, right? Ha. I spent hours looking at Gymboree, Zara, OshKosh, H&M, Old Navy, Gap and Target. Seriously hours. Then I put together looks on Canva and had a co-worker give her feedback on it. Then I scraped it all and picked out a dress I saw early on and settled on that for the girls. Plus I got 50% off the dresses plus an extra 25%. Total steal. So I have the girls dresses, shoes, my shirt, two shirts picked out at Nordstrom Rack to go try on and then there is Rory. We will figure out his once everything arrives. But I plan to share the look next week...hopefully.

Does anyone else struggle with putting together family photo outfits?

FOUR. One of my friends tagged me in a giveaway on IG and when I saw what was up for grabs, I decided to enter myself. You could win Winky Lux's Matcha Balm, Tinted Veil Moisturizer, and Diamond Powder Foundation plus an Elsa & Rose Bikini ($80 swimsuit). My friend raves about Winky Lux's make-up, so I wanted to try it for myself. Well I won (that never happens) and I can't wait to get my goodies.

FIVE. This is your monthly reminder for our Girl Chat link up next Thursday. The topic is Inspiration - Share a DIY/craft. I am sharing some of my favorite crafts/DIYs that I have created over the years. I am sharing two Christmas DIYs and then linking to some of the other ones I have shared over the past.

  1. I just love that Free People top, but read the reviews that said the same thing...just too boxy. I hope the other one works. Have a wonderful weekend! Tanya - The Other Side of the Road

  3. Ahh - dont stress over your photo outfits - just go simple. I always told my clients that YOU are the focal point of pictures, not your clothing - so just keep it simple & neutral & just a color that connects with each one - a theme. Dont over think it too much - it just because a crazy stress!!!!!
That's what I'm always afraid of with shirts like that - the boxy look, or even the PG look - which I dont need my belly looking ANY bigger.

  5. You are much more together with your outfits for pics than me. I just kind of wing it that day depending on what E will put on. She is so gosh darn picky.

    1. My girls can be picky to, but I can usually win with a dress of any kind.

  6. I can get hung up on outfits too. We're taking some maternity pics this weekend and I was thinking about putting a poll on my insta stories around my lunch break asking for help with what color dress I should go with. Ugh decisions can be so tough. I have outfit options for both boys, and well, Eric needs to figure it out lol. I hope you have a great weekend! Sierra Beautifully Candid

  7. I love the nail polish color. I will have to try it. I seriously struggle with outfits for family pictures. We had ours done last week and it was literally down to the wire on outfit decisions. I am hoping I love them.

  9. Too bad that top was boxy, it's so cute! Hate when that happens. Love that color nail polish -- isn't it funny how a new polish can make it officially feel like a new season?! Happy Friday, friend. xo

  11. I just try to make sure we aren't clashing for photos and try not to get too stressed about it. You are way more organized than me lol. That is awesome that you won the giveaway!!! I liked the way the FP top fit, it sort of hides my flaws. But I am also not an XS. Andrea told me it was boxy on her too. I saw the one you got instead at Belk last week, but I was in a hurry and didn't get a chance to examine closer. I will have to check it out too! Hope you have a great weekend!

  16. I have never tried Essie, can you believe it? The colour you featured is gorgeous and I must give that brand a try. How long does it last for when applied and does it keep your nails in good condition? I can't seem to find a brand that doesn't make mine peel and get weak. Gorgeous bikini by the way - if you can wear it you MUST! I would love to be doing the link up but sadly I don't have time for crafts - something I'd dearly love to change! Hope you are having a great week - J xx
