Friday Favorites

*This post contains affiliate links.

And just like that, we have our first Friday of April. I feel like this month is going to be more relaxing (hint: Mexico).

Onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. Wednesday was my mom's birthday. To celebrate, she got a phone call from the girls, a wedding dress fitting with my sister and myself and then an amazing dinner at my favorite steakhouse in town with Rory, my dad and myself! It was pretty awesome to celebrate my mom and have an adult dinner with my parents. I don't remember the last time that happened. The girls were hanging out with my in-laws and happy as can be.

TWO. Walter has his annual vet visit today. We got a notice in the mail for his annual shots and with the pet flu being rampant, I didn't want to bring him in. Also, the vet said to wait until the flu wasn't so crazy. So he is going in today. I always fear these appointments because you just never know. Walter is a pretty healthy dude, but I know we need to brush his teeth more often. But that dude is spoiled, so I hope he checks out just fine.

When we take him to the vet, he also gets a heartworm test and another year of meds, or treats as Walter thinks they are. We do this because we take him to California and other areas for camping and heartworm is an issue in those places. So we get him tested and keep him on a monthly med for it. April is heartworm testing month, so please get your pet tested.

THREE. I have been trying to be more mindful of drinking water. When I was pregnant with the girls, I drank so much water. Even when I was pumping and breastfeeding, but after I stopped, I wasn't that great about it. I have noticed that I get dehydrated more often now and knew I needed to up my water game. So I went to REI last weekend and bought myself a Hydro Flask with the silicone cover for the bottom of my bottle. I had a 20% off member coupon plus my yearly membership dividend, so it came out to around $15.
Hydro Flask 32 oz Water Bottle

I have been using my water bottle at work all week and have definitely noticed a difference. I fill it up at home with ice and water and then bring it to work. I try to drink the entire bottle before lunch and then refill it after lunch since I am part of our work water fund (basically $3 to $4 per month for unlimited filtered water). Total game changer. I guess I just needed a fancy water bottle (that keeps cold all day) to help kickstart me again.

FOUR. So I want to cut my girls hair. I always said I would allow it to grow and grow, but they were blessed with my hair. Very fine and crazy hair. Plus they sleep heavy and thrash around a bit which gives them the most epic beadhead.
Case in point

I use Honest Company Hair Detangler on them every morning. Even after a fresh bath the night before. I typically have cut their bangs every so often so they can see, but we have only taken them for one haircut. That was when they were almost 2 years old (I kept their hair for their baby books). I am really wanting to cut their hair in a bob style, so it is easier to style and will look not so "rag-a-muffin". That is what my parents called me when I was a kid and my hair was crazy.

So what do you think? Cut their hair into cut bobs when we get back from Mexico or let it grow?

FIVE. I am currently wanting this shirt, but they are out of my size in the color I want. But I hear it is very flattering on everyone. I am hoping it comes back in stock in my size soon. Seriously, how cute is this?

  6. That shirt totally looks like your style!
I always hold my breath at the vet too, even for check ups. That dog flu was scary! I was terrified to take our dogs in the vet too during it. Luckily, our vets office said they never had any dogs come in with it. Whew!

    1. Yes. I always want to share that with others. You just never know if you live in an area where it is common. Where did you go last April? Which city? I will rock it for you. I am self conscious too, but I love a good peplum. Have a great weekend as well!

  9. I have a stainless steal bottle that I keep on my desk and luckily I'm across from the water cooler so I try to make frequent trips. I haven't drank as much water as when I was pregnant though. I'm not much help with little girls hair but I always think little girls with pretty long hair is so cute. I guess it all depends on how easy it is to maintain though. I hope you have a great weekend! Sierra~Beautifully Candid

  10. That top is so cute!!! I can see why you want it. I am good about bringing my fake yeti to work every day and most days I drink at least one full one while I am there....but I used to be better about drinking 2-4 of them throughout the day and I need to get back on that. I like the cup you picked out, it looks easier with a lid and stuff. I cant just throw my yeti in a bag. I wish I could. Zoe's hair is super fine as well and I am not sure what I am going to do with it as it grows out. I suck so hard at hair.

    1. Totally cute!!! I like my Hydro Flask. Plus it keeps everything cold and is a great brand. I suck at doing their hair too. Avery loves her hair being done, but Sutton pulls it out not long after. That is why I want to do something with it. It just looks insanely crazy on the daily. I brush it and my children look homeless with their hair. Ha. Have a great weekend!

  12. I had no clue that pet flu was a thing! That is so scary! And happy birthday to your mom!

  13. I think bobs would be cute on the girls! Girl hair is no joke... I have 2 boys with super coarse hair and they like it short so I never have to do anything but last year I babysat my nieces for a week and the hair just about killed me! It's constantly in need of being done and brushed and detangled!

    1. I completely agree. It is hard to manage and I hate when I send them to school with crazy hair. I brush it and put it up, but it doesn't always help.

  14. We just took our dog to the vet this week and she had to get her flu shot. So crazy how bad it spreads in dogs! I'm trying to get better about drinking water, too. I don't mind drinking it, I just always forget to! Haha. Happy weekend!

    1. I had no idea how bad it was until my co-workers dog got it and then the vet said to wait to come in. It's brutal. I always forget to drink water too. That is why I am hoping this bottle helps.

  15. A cute, new water bottle always does the trick! It takes a while to get back into the habit, but I always feel so much better when I drink my water! Have a great weekend:)

  16. I'm so bad at drinking water because I hate having to run to the bathroom all the time! I hadn't heard of the pet flu, but my dog always took heartworm pills.

  17. I love the peplum top! I definitely drink a lot of water and am know to be carrying a water bottle around at all times! lol I got a knock off of the hydro flask at Kroger and like it, do you like you hydro flask so far?

    1. I almost bought a knock off at Costco, but then was told these are just better. They hold in the cold and heat longer, the ice lasts over 24 hours in it and they are sooo durable. I have had mine for over a week now and I love it. The water just tastes really good in it. I would recommend it completely!
