Christmas 2021

Christmas has come and gone, and while I was excited for a fresh start, I was sad when it was all over. We spend the whole month of December prepping for the big day, and then it is gone in a flash.

Our Christmas starts on Christmas Eve. The girls and I baked cookies and decorated a few of them.

Sugar Cookies

Then we all got ready, and headed down to my parents house to help my mom make cinnamon rolls and got to our friends annual Christmas Eve party.

We ate, drank, chatted and took many photos.
Isn't my nephew so darling?

Then we headed home to get ready for bed, put out cookies, milk and bourbon for Santa and get the girls to bed. They were in bed around 9:30. Then Rory and I watched a show and waited for the girls to go to sleep. Then I put out all the gifts that we brought home from my parents, all the gifts from us, then Santa gifts and finally filled the stockings. Oh and ate some bites of cookies even though we were fully stuffed.

How I wish we had a mantle over our fireplace for our stockings.

Then we went to bed around midnight. The girls slept in until 7:45 ish and I call that a blessing. We got up, made coffee, lit the fire and set everything up for the girls to come out. I videoed a lot of Christmas morning, but here are a few snaps.
Slippers from Santa...also their sticker by number books.

Rapunzel Wet Brush sets from us.

Walter eating a homemade tree treat from a friend. He loved it!

After gifts were opened, it was time for breakfast. We had my moms cinnamon rolls, bacon and mimosas. Rory also had bagels with lox and cream cheese. The girls only had orange juice, but in fancy cups.
These were so yummy!

These are our wedding champagne glasses. Also, we were watching A Christmas Story. I wish I took a picture of the chaos to my left (all the girls gifts) and to the right (all the wrapping paper, boxes and bags).

Around 2 pm, we all got ready for the day. Then we headed over to my in-laws house for Christmas dinner.

Now I want to mention how this wasn't a perfect day. What we put on Instagram and blogs is usually the best of the best, but the girls threw several fits, complained about not having as many Christmas gifts and didn't want to listen when it was time to put stuff away, to get ready, etc. My girls were a bit nuts on Christmas Day which took some joy out of the day, but overall, it was a great day.

Ok, back to the recap. We went to my in-laws house where it was snowing. Way more snow than we had at our house. We got our white Christmas.

The girls opened gifts, we took photos, we had appetizers, we ate so much food, we drank some good wine, lit some sparklers and fireworks, made wishes that you send up in the sky, and then we had dessert before heading home.
Those booties are from Christmas last year.

The whole family...including Walter in his Barefoot Dreams sweater.

Prime Rib, Creamy Horseradish, Creamed Spinach, Potatoes Au Gratin, and a Salad.

We got home and Rory shoveled snow while I got the girls to bed. It was a very fast, but good day!

  9. I think fits, fights, and "attitudes" are all part of the holidays when you have kids-- for everyone. It does improve much with age though you lose that magic feeling. Looks like a delicious Christmas!
