My Favorite Hair Products and Styling Tools

It has been almost a year since I have shown you all my current hair products. I basically change my products based on what my hairstylist says. She knows my hair best and doesn't try to just sell me things. Her salon has recently phased out Bumble and Bumble products, so I don't use those as much anymore except for my favorites which I just order on their website.

I have fine and straight hair and it seems like it is tough to maintain or get it looking just right. Add the blonde and now some brown through it and it seems even harder. But I feel like I have gotten a routine down and change it up often to go with the change of seasons and the change in my hair.

Shampoo and Conditioner
I have been using Kerastase since December. I am not stranger to this product as I used to use it at my hairstylists old salon. I loved it before and I love it now. Since I have fine and color treated hair, this stuff helps keep it healthy.

As for conditioner, I use the matching one to the shampoo. I use about a dime size amount and massage it into my hair. I usually wash my face and let the conditioner set in a bit and then rinse out.

Hair Prep

After washing my hair, I love to put two things into my hair. I know it sounds ridiculous. The first is Bumble and Bumble Thickening Full Form Mousse and then part of the Kerastase treatment from above (detailed below). The mousse is to add volume to my rather limp hair. I put it on my roots, rub it in and then add the Kerastase Blow Dry Primer. Then I brush my hair before blow drying it. Also, if you blow dry your hair upside down for the last part of it, it gives it a lot more volume.

Dry Shampoo

I have tried a bunch of dry shampoo lines. I used to use Not Your Mother's Clean Freak (I still do after the gym), but then I went to the grand opening of my hair salon and they used the new Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-powder and I fell in love. Not only does it smell good, but I can use it for several days and not shampoo my hair. I have never found a dry shampoo that does that. I usually can only go a day in between, but not with Bumble's. This stuff works soooooo good. It isn't exactly cheap, but so worth it. Plus it smells like heaven.

Hair Repair

If you are like me and blow dry, straighten and/or curl your hair all the time, I am sure it is a bit damaged. With fine hair, it gets damaged easily. I have been using it daily and my hair has never felt better. I bought this as part of a "kit" with the shampoo and conditioner, but I am still loving it. And I have been using it for 4 months and I still have a ton left. I put about a nickel size amount in my palm and then rub it into the ends of my hair.

Hair Spray

I have used so many different hair sprays. I have used expensive ones like Bumble and Bumble Does It All, Pureology Hair Spray, Kerastase Hair Spray and then cheaper ones like Tresemme, but the one that seems to do the job and is only $3 to $5, Dove Flexible Hair Spray.

Texturizing Spray

I bought some Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Spray a long time ago and never really used it. Then my hairstylist showed me how to properly use it and now I love it. After I curl my hair, I let it cool and then run my fingers through the curls. Then I spray the texturizing spray all over it and then add a little hair spray to hold everything. It is the perfect combo and it gives texture and the lift that my fine hair needs.

Flat Iron

I have been using the same flat iron for about 15 or more years. When my last one broke on my trip to Australia for work, I came back and bought a new one. The same exact one. That trip was in 2012 and this one is still working. It is simple, easy to use and works for my hair.

Another product that I have had for quite awhile is my Target Remington Pro Curling Wand. It comes with a glove which I need because I tend to burn my fingers when I don't use it. I have the smaller barrel, but now that my hair is grown out, I might upgrade to the bigger barrel for looser curls. You can adjust the heat on this and it is super easy to use.

Hair Brush

When it comes to brushing my hair or the girls hair, we use Wet Brushes. They brush through the tangles easily and don't seem to damage our hair. I haven't found a brush that is better. When I lost my luggage on the way to Israel, I had to buy a temporary brush and I hated it because it wasn't my Wet Brush

Hair Dryer

I bought this hair dryer on the recommendation of my hairstylist about three years ago. Mine was too hot and was causing my roots to break around my face and bangs. She told me that BaByliss was the best "over the counter" hair dryer that wasn't crazy expensive. I have been using it ever since. I even bought the travel version for vacations. I just make sure to use extra blow dry primer when I travel for work and use the hotel hair dryers (which I hate but I need more space in my luggage).

  5. I use a similar dryer from the same company, I am on my third one in over 10 years, one was stolen and one was shorted out. I live by that brush too. I use drybar Southern Belle Mousse and love it, I can totally tell the difference when I don't use it.

    1. The company is good. Sucks that one was stolen. Was that on your California trip? I should look into that dry bar mousse!

  8. Babyliss is my favorite for hair tools, I have the straightener and when my hot tools hair dryer kicks the bucket, I am getting that one! I have the same hair as you and struggle so bad. I need to try that shampoo line and the dry shampoo! The only dry shampoo I have liked is Living Proof, and even with that, it only lasts me one day and I have to shampoo the next.

    1. I haven't tried their straightener yet. I might look into it when my current one goes. Yes to the shampoo and dry shampoo. It is pricey but soooo good.
