Single Parenting Weekend

Can I just say that I am glad the weekend is over? Single parenting is hard. It is even harder when you have twins who are obsessed with their daddy and don't want to listen to their mommy. Phew. But we made it through and now we only have the week left of single parenting, but weeknights are so much easier. Don't get me wrong, there were definitely high points of this weekend with just my girls.

Saturday morning after we woke up, we all cuddled in bed for a bit before Rory headed off to grab some breakfast burritos and coffees. While he was gone, I showered because I knew I wouldn't get much of a chance after that. When he got back, we quickly ate and then the girls hung out with Rory while he got ready and finished packing. He left at 8 am and the girls and I did a few things around the house before heading down to my parents house.

We met up with my mom and aunt and headed to the Genoa Candy Dance which is basically a huge craft fair. The girls were doing pretty good until we gave them one piece of candy that I bought and they wanted more, but I told them no since the first pieces were huge and they hadn't had lunch yet. Luckily, I had my mom and aunt there to help calm them down. We looked at some crafts and then headed to the food area to get the girls pizza.

The girls ate while we all hung out and chatted. After pizza and a quick change into a pull up, we went to look at more crafts. The girls are doing soooo well with potty training, but they didn't want to use a porta potty and no store owners would let us use their bathrooms, so after 2 1/2 hours, Avery had an accident and I changed them into their pull ups. But can you blame her? I hate porta potties and she held it in for a long time.

Anyways, after buying somethings, we headed back to my parents house. The girls slept 20 minutes along the way and that was it for their naps. The girls facetimed Rory about half an hour before he boarded his flight. I thought it would turn into a meltdown after, but they were more interested in my mom and aunt than talking to him.

My mom painted the girls toes blue and they were so excited for it. They even had us blow on their toes every couple minutes to make sure they were dry. My dad got home not long later and the girls were soooo excited. They chased him around, played with him and followed him everywhere. Then we finished getting dinner ready and had dinner all together. We had short ribs, rice and baked banana squash. It was all so good and I even got to take leftovers home.

The girls were getting tired and asked to go home around 6:30 and so we did. They stayed up most of the drive home, but did fall asleep. Once we got home, I got them into theirs beds, gave them kisses and they went to sleep quickly. They didn't sleep that well, but they got to sleep quickly.

Sunday morning we got up and headed to breakfast at My Favorite Muffin which is the girls favorite place. They get mini chocolate chip muffins and absolutely love it. I had a bagel sandwich and we just ate and talked. After I thought it would be ok to take them to the grocery store to pick up a few items, but they were crazy in the store, pulling things off the shelf and just not listening. I booked it out of their quickly.

Once we got home, I did some cleaning while they played. Then we had a somersault and tumble session while counting. You may have seen the video on IG.

Then I made the girls lunch and told them that if they went to sleep quickly and took a good nap that I would take them to the park when they got up. They took 40 minutes to go down, but slept for and hour and a half.

We met my in-laws at the park and they played for over two hours while I caught up with my in-laws and we pushed the girls on the swings. They left before I did, but we went not long later. When we got home, I made the girls dinner and then bathed them. Then I did some laundry while cooking my first Blue Apron dinner which I told the girls they could have some if they wanted. They only wanted the bread part of it, go figure. They were not listening that well while I was cooking, but they were having a blast together.

Once my dinner was almost done, I put the girls to bed and they went down surprisingly well. I only went in there twice to turn on their humidifier and give them extra hugs and kisses.

Then I settled in for some Bloodline and went to bed.

The girls slept pretty good and I did sleep in their room for an hour but that was because I fell asleep on our new little mattress for their room. Walter woke me up with licks to the face and then I slept in my bed the rest of the night.

And now we are into a new week and hoping the rest of it goes smoothly and I have a great time with the girls.

How was your weekend?

I am linking up with Biana from B Loved Boston.

  3. Haha your weekend sounds like mine with the fighting of the naps and the kiddos not sleeping well during the night. I finally admitted defeat last night and laid down on the floor in Zoe's room with my hand hanging in between her crib rails so she could hold it. I snuck out of there finally a little later but goodness! Hopefully this week will roll on smoothly for you. It sounds like you had lots of good family time!!! What did you think of Blue Apron?

  4. It is so tough taking care of everything on your own. Eric leaves on Sunday for his trip and even though I'll be by myself with them for half of the week I am already trying to mentally prepare. Hang in there mama! They are getting so big! Beautifully Candid

  6. hey, no offense but I sometimes want to do the same thing in a grocery store - just throw everything off the shelves ;) haha
Hope you're getting some 'rest' at work while the girls burn off some energy.
& nope - dont blame the girls at all - porta-pots - THE WORST!!!!!! I only use them if all else fails - & by "all else", I'm pushing my limits there what I deem acceptable.

  7. That's so great that you have family nearby to help you when you're on your own. We used to hang out with my parents when Dave traveled, back when we all lived in NJ!

  14. Weekend morning snuggles are the best! And I hear ya on solo parenting, I give HUGE props to single parents who do it every day. My husband is busy at the end of each quarter with reporting, and works super late and I'm on my own with Serena in the evenings during this time and it's no joke. Cheers to a new week <3

  15. Solo parenting is so hard! But sounds you did a great job! Umm yeah, don't blame you one bit for the pull ups, port-o-potties are nasty! I feel so bad when my kids have to use them. Haha go figure the girls only wanted bread from your dinner, that's always the case around here! How did you like Blue Apron?

  16. I hope the rest of the single parenting goes okay, glad they are not whining for daddy. I don't know how my boyfriend does it every week. I hope you had a better blue apron experience than I did!
